Well I made the trip over from the island to do some river fishing fishing. We ended up launching at Island 22 around 9am. We went strait from there to the mouth of the Harrison and fished there for Salmon for a while. Lots of guys fishing but didn't see much caught. The "Special People" were out with there net and seemed to be catching hundreds. Of course its there "Food Fishery".

We spend a couple of hours salmon fishing and from there we went up top near the mouth of the Chehalis and did some Sturgeon Fishing. We moved several times and didn't even have a bite until around 230pm. From that time on until dark we had non stop Sturgeon action. We managed to land 5 nice ones, all over 4 feet, and had countless hits. The biggest of the day was approx. 7 feet and came right at Dusk.

Great Trip.

TT Out

we went to dewdney slough area and picked up 9 between 9 am and 2 pm the biggest was 8.5, then 7.5, 6.5, 6.2,6,6,5,3,3,2,2 feet long. quite the action i must say considering we only hooked probly half our bites. the 8.5 took 40 mins and we drifted 2 miles downriver after it and almost got spooled 3 times using 120 pound test with the tension as tight as it goes on hali gear. impressive fish.

in regards to your comment about special people, we have the right to fish like we have had since the begining of time.i personally would think first before making a comment like you had made.and yes im a special people ie.FIRST NATIONS who is also a sports fisherman , Not a commercial fisherman,So please take a moment to think before making a comment like that, and maybe you might not offend some special people.

would you rather he edit it to replace special people with the word indian?or even first nations?I believe he was thinking when he wrote that.

keep it over at FishBC. Oh yah, right on TT on the sturgies. Never fished them before but would like to one of these days. Hookin into a 7 or 8 foot dinosaur must be quite the battle.

Yah that sounds like fun. Must be alot like fishing for Halibit. Are you allowed to keep sturgen? Or they endangered? DG

picture a hali that runs fast (like really fast), jumps entirely out of the water...all 7-8 feet of the fish, and headshakes so hard you hold on to the rod with two hands and get pulled to the back of the boat (this actually happened to me) and you have yourself a sturgeon. remember we werent light tackle fishing, we're talking hali pool cues with 120 pound tuffline and the drag maxed out. i can only imagine what would happen if someone snagged one bar fishing<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Couldn't have said it any better myself Eagle Eyes. There is nothing you can do to slow these beautiful beasts down. Crank the drag down and hold on for your life.

light tackle why in the world would you take offence 2 his term of "special people " you are special in lots of ways i.e your food fishery THAT IS THE BIGEST JOKE GOING and everyone knows it , you as well.i`ve seen the devastation first hand, not just on my home river . there was a write up joke in are local paper here in cowichan valley i.e the citizen paper, it summed it up perfectly. some took offence 2 it but it was so true, i will try and find it and post it on here . sorry 2 all who take offence, but i have a right 2 voice my opinion, too. last but not least THERE ARE "RIGHTS" BUT ALSO WRONGS

ya bbanks this time it actually was, hey u gonna be at the PSF dinner? i'm probly helping out there in a couple weekends. Any coho in the river yet?

I love when they say this "we have the right to fish like we have had since the begining of time." The words right from his mouth, but i think he might be wrong. What happend to the cedar stripped canoes, the lack of motors, the lack of technology. I am not that wise in history, but i know enough that these things that you benefit from today were not invited a 100 years ago. So, if you really want to fish and take as many as you like don't you think you should do it the traditional way. That might hurt your profit don't you think?

you mean chasing the whales with the 4 stroke yamaha and shooting them with the 7mm.No,they always did it that way.
I could get right into this but will try to avoid turning this into an ugly mess.
(ps-if you want a coho,go to walmart.there is a kid selling them from a shopping cart out front)

it must be something in the water

I don't mind if everyone uses the reasources, but don't you think enough time has gone by that we should be able to all follow the same rules. We are all canadians are we not. Well then we should all follow the same rules put in place by the mnr. They put these rules in place to help the fisheries and just think of how much better it would be for everyone if we all followed the same rules.

you guys r racist you killed us all and made us alcoholics. so can't we just fish a little it's not like we're gonna kill all the fish so you white boys dont' have any fish in the lake.

it`s all a load of crap i say, ya i`m racist why you might ask ,but doutfully . i wasn`t like this always ok . when i went 2 school i was very into history and respected indians and there love and respect 4 the earth that i was taught , well it`s bin proved 2 me that this isn`t true . when i moved 2 cowichan valley all that i was taught in school was proved wrong . it`s all a friggin joke and it doesn`t just happen on my home river, ask any steelheader what he thinks

i wouldent call myself a rascist, but im dead against the "indians" using net, and its not even a food fishery its a dont work all year and net fish in summer time, here on the somass system they start netting to damn early and get the spawned out steely kelts on their way back out to the ocean. the way i look at it if they wanna net fish they shouldent get such a huge load of the tax payers money, i dont even pay taxes yet and i look at it in this way, cant immagine how some taxpayers look at it. i dont know, im definatly against it, they say its their haritage, well they sure the hell didnt have 14 foot aluminums with 40hp's on them and longa@@ nets...if they wanna net fish they should have use a small as! canoe and a friggin pinner net, and not beable to sell there fish on top of that, then we'll see how many "firstnations" are still out there netting fish, i bet thered be next to none.....and the bonus to us normal/sportfisherman more fish! lol its a win win well thats my few cents on the "firstnations" comercial fishery they hold in the somass every summer.....

well time for homewerk...steelheadman

Wow ,Didn,t know i would hit on such a touchy subject here, everyone has a opinion here .I was trying to make a point about fishing rights or actually the term ,Special People, after i look at the opinions or feedback of everyone that voiced there comments .I feel maybe i should have not responded to such a comment that started all this .EH totally tyee, In all this is the last time i will respond to anything to do with CHUGS ,thats what i prefer to be called.Im not a poacher,a snagger,or a food fisher,i am a sportsfisherman. thx for all the input from everyone .LIGHTGEAR THE CHUG.
