WoW, population explosion and disease not unlike fish farms! Unless your one of Harpers cronies then there is no relation

Say what??

Say what, what, Dave? What's dfo take on that comment? You see no parallels in this natural occurrence and the artificial one that is happening with fish farms?

Denial is now part of the dfo mandate....hence the departmental name change....

Dave, what gives? You spent your career studying salmon(and one would hope helping the survival of wild salmon) and now you spend your retirement years trolling a recreational fishing forum defending salmon farm companies.

Note: no DFO comments in the article, perhaps it is because the budget has been spent on aquaculture promotion.

There reporter from the Sun chose to write a responsible, objective article - basing it on the facts at hand - not made up like some posters here do.

I see. There obviously have not been thousands of fish that have had to be destroyed on both coasts over the last 10 years because of disease caused by an unnatural overpopulation in a small area. Right.

There are also differences between the two (and I am not talking about the obvious one). This is why it is important to not create a story within another story and stick to what is known about this recent die-off of starfish, so I applaud the reporter. If it is disease related, researchers from the Vancouver Aquarium suggest that it could be good for the ecosystem. This does have some merit as diseases do play a role in wild populations already. Hopefully further investigations will provide some more insight.
