South Island Meeting: Conservationists/Fishermen(women)

I get a strong sense that there are many out there who feel as I do; that the state of the Pacific fishery is in peril; that the very offices of our Federal & Provincial govenments charged with the stewardship of this priceless resource - are failing miserably!

I'd also hazard a guess that, as well intentioned as each of us may be and we all want to help and do something, we are pulled in many directions and (in my own case after the demise of the WSA) we end up uncertain which way to go or who to throw your lot in with.

So what I'm proposing here is this: if any of you out there like me agree it's due time that you at least get off your butt and explore some options and ideas about getting involved in an existing lobby group, or, forming the nucleaous of a brand new one, come out for an hour or two and lets talk. Bring your ideas, as I for one would like to hear them.

IMHO, the letter-writing & sign-waving thus far has produced dismal results and I'm done living with this horrible ulser of a notion that if somebody doesn't stand up and do something real-quick that future generations of us people and critters who depend on this blessed and wonderous natural bounty we are blessed with will soon be left with little more than toxic net-pens and oil spills.

Cautionary note to perspective attendees: If you are a readily identifiable member of the SFBC forum, or, a genuinly concerned recreational/commercial/First Nations fisherman/woman driven purely by conservationist values rooted solely in BC's WILD FISHERIES - you are welcome. If you have alterior motives - KEEP YOUR SORRY butt AT HOME!

Otherwise, I will look forward to meeting you and sharing and hearing some thoughts about direction of energy for the benefit of the Pacific fishery. No judgement, no rules, no segregation. Hope a few of you show.

Thursday, Nov. 24th (7:00 PM.) @ Serious Coffee on the Old Island Hwy. (across from the casino & Jenner Chevrolet).

Terry Anderson

PS. - my computer has crashed (virus) but hope to have it back up running today. If need be, PM me through the fourm. Thanks.

How long do you think the get to get her will last. Colwood is doing a presentation at the identical time. Missed the last one

I would go it's just too far from Courtenay :(

I am so bummed I cannot be there. I have 400 bucks in reservations that I cant miss out on. Mabey I can meet up there to be filled in next week sometime? This is part of the problem of trying to organize groups etc. I know you just have to set the date or it wont get done. I definitely would like to be involved. I have a sense that some people who might be more actively involved this are not on this board. If this is going to be serious I think we need to get organized and then recruit by even knocking on doors of anyone who has a boat with a fishing net in there yard.

I don't mean to speak out of turn or prematurely, but I don't think this will be the only time such a meeting takes place, so if you can't make this one I am pretty sure there will be more in the future.

No worries if you can't make it. It's just a brainstorming session anyhow. Stuff has to start somewhere...

Alert: If any of you are coming tomorrow night, the venue has been moved up the road to the Serious Coffee at the corner of Goldstream & the Ole' Island Hwy (across from London Drugs); same bat-time; same bat-channel :)

The other joint closes at 7:00.

Great meeting! Well attended.

Actually I got there just before 7:00 and the joint was closed (I even called to confirm they would be open) but no worries.
Thanks for coming Christopher; I enjoyed meeting you and I feel it was time well spent.

As I said before: Stuff has to start somewhere.

Hawk, you could have the gathering @ the 6 Mile Pub,something about beer & fisherman make for better brain storming? You could twin it up with the SVI x-mass meet.I think it's good thing that you're trying to take the lead to get ppl off their tushies.
Good luck!
Edit:Gee sorry Terry ..my bad,I guess my sparse visits to the form didn't spot your xmass roll call for the Dec SVI 6 mile function!
