sonar signals confused

Has anyone here ever had a situation where there were 2 sonars operating on a boat and found they confused each other?or cancelled one out? or screwed up the signal in any way?I have a lcx15 upstairs and a x85 below. For whatever reason,I always turn on the x85 when I start the engines.I then go up top to drive and turn on the lcx15.At about 100' depth, the x15 looses signal and does not get it back.I've replaced everything connected to it.Source line, power cable, transducer. No luck.Loaned it to a friend and it worked fine. Now i'm sittin here at work and thinkin,Dang!I wonder. It might be getting mixed signals and confusing it.If I go back to shallow water(less than 50') and turn off and restart, its o.k. again.
Maybe this is just common knowledge and I've been in a dark hole. What do you 'pros' think?

Sorry knuckles. Can't say that I've owned a boat large enough to warrant TWO sounders. Does sound plausible though.

Shouldn't be to hard to figure out. Does it work when the other is turned off? If not, then it's something else.

Most troubles rise from poor transducer locations, from my experience.

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!

I only thought of this today while at work.I'll try tomorrow eve to zip out and try with the lower unit turned off.Wouldn't it be funny if that was the prob. After buying a new transducer and paying a diver to swap. Then buying a new power cord.I've come close to tossing it in the drink. The whole settup is quite new to me.Port Boathouse did all the installs but no one ever warned about running both sonars.Maybe its common knowledge. Both units are 50/200 so maybe just have to change one.
What is it they say about a hole in the water?

Bring Out Another Thousand

Sorry to hear that it's been soooooo involved. <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

Just put one on 50. Go to sonar options on the menu and change one setting to 50 usaully has 2 or 3 settings 50, 200 or both. I run mine on 50 most of the time except when in water less then 75 feet.

Knuckle,

I just found out I have to replace my transducer on my LMC-480-DF. If you still have your old one, if it's compatible, if it still works, and if you want to sell it let me know. Mine requires an HST-DFSBL or #106-77 (I don't know which one is the part number)transom-mount, dual frequency skimmer transducer.

Mine worked fine before Christmas, warranty expired on Feb 10th, I got 'er back in the water in late March and whadda ya know...$130 please! Won't read while I'm steaming or in more than 150' of water...and that's garbled on both frequencies. Anybody know of anything else it could be?

ya, if it's mounted on the transom, it could be too close
to the prop.
turbulence around the transducer will cause it to lose it's signal.

Scotty,

It worked in Victoria before Christmas, and if I'm just drifting without the engine on it still doesn't help. I powered it on and off while drifting and nothing. Thanks for the input tho'.

ME's got it straight - two sounders working same freq will not work. Put one on 50 and the other on 200 or, get a juction type box the runs two sounders off of one transponder or, turn one off.

Sorry,I think I threw it out.Didn't mean to.I wanted to keep it to use for the lifetimer I plan on buying so I could just swap electronics between boats.Must of had a brain freeze.
