Just curious if were to use Jim's setup except use one bead and chain swivel to get the hook to the back of skirt, would it still fish the same? I have 3-4 setups like that and haven't used them yet. I also have tied a few like Jim's setup, just bought a boat and getting all my gear setup for the month's ahead.

You could do that. Purpose behind Jim's method is to position the hook back far enough that the fish doesn't come up short on it. I use the glow rubber inserts rather than beads. You can also accomplish the same hook position control using a single bead with a tooth pick to hold the exact position you want.

I would say that most guides on the coast are using something similar to what Jim has in his photo for the reasons noted above.
