Does anyone out there know how to catch Hake? Does anyone out there ever fish for Hake? commercially Fished more than all salmon species put together, and don’t know anyone fishing for it.

thanks

They are pretty small and in deep water. Likely not much sport and not worth the effort.

If you have the sad misfortune of catching a hake, they do make passable Dungeness crab bait, especially when fresh

Otherwise, the description of them resembling a used condom with teeth is as good a taxonomic representation for hake as I’ve ever heard or read. Unfortunately, they’re not always found in deep water. I’ve gotten into them hot and heavy while fishing plug cut herring in normal salmon depths. When they show up, nothing left to do but move. They’re voracious feeders and worse, they’re canabalistic .....so try and picture a used condom with teeth inside another used condom with teeth

There has been a recent commercial hake fishery - draggers - working out of French Creek fishing the deep off Cape Lazo. Years ago we commonly caught them off Chrome Island.
