New (to me) 1992 Wellcraft V21 Steplift

Just completed the first full-on bloody deck trip of the season in the new ride. I've been out of the boat-owning game for the past 2 years and was really missing getting out on the water.

Happened to find this very nice 1993 V21 locally. Has an '06 Optimax 200 with ~550 hours along with a 9.9 Mercury ProKicker and tandem axle trailer with electric brakes. Ended up replacing the electronics with a Lowrance HDS-9 Carbon (Harbour Chandler had a blowout early in the season). Couple of small issues with the electrical wiring that I sorted out -- removed about 10lbs of extra wiring -- added an ACR and a fuse block and have things working perfect.

For a 21ft it handles the chop well. Has a pair of trim tabs and I can generally find a speed/trim combination that makes for a smooth ride. Fuel economy seems decent compared to some of my older boats -- at about 26-28kts I'm burning 8-9 gallons per hour. Fishes with 4 large dudes quite well. Well designed fishing machine for certain.

nice find. I have a 91 v-20. yours has some nice refinements over mine, like the molded in seat bases. I love the massive flair these hulls have.

what does it top out at?

Not really sure -- I've not opened it up. I'd guess close to 40kts -- way faster than I want/need to go.

Like a friend mine says, he race drag boats, 150 miles an hr on pavement is nothing, try going 150mph on water that’s scary lol,I might be too old but 30mph is fast enough for me, anything above that just burns to much fuel, nice boat btw, I have a 1992 250 sportsmen and it’s a great riding boat

I ran a V20 w Merc Black Max in the 80’s on Lake Erie - dating myself a bit - that hull is a very good design :) fish her in good health and tub out !

Sweet boat I had a 91 V21 with a Yamaha 200 can’t say enough of the ride and how it handled waves above its weight class. I loved that boat and miss it dearly. Check out this link to a Wellcraft forum http://www.wellcraftv20.com/. if you haven’t already. These guys have a dedicated site for this “Raymond Hunt hull design” kind of a cult following. On that site you’ll find everything your ever going to need to know about that boat good and bad. Good luck and hopefully it’s as fishy or better than mine was.
