Need some help

While on a plane your boat is probably only an inch or two into the water at the back and you are creating a hole from back there almost as deep as your keel. I would try mounting it on your kicker bracket and make your boat as level as you can to your normal plane angle while there on the trailer. Follow the line from your hull horizontally back to the leg of the kicker and hopefully below it. Do it along the same line as your kicker sits in from the side of the boat i.e. if your kicker is 1 foot from the side that is the point of depth for your horizontal line towards the kicker. Hope this helps.

P.S. We did this on a friends boat to mount his long shaft kicker bracket and figured we had about 6 inches clearance. Turned out when planing to be closer to about 3 inches.
