Kitty Coleman Reports 2012

What a difference a day makes.
Same gear and same time as yesterday but total different results.
First fish hit within 15 minutes of getting our lines down.
Scrapper that some how managed to bust the hook on my new, best hoochy.
Yea sometimes that happens.... Must have used too much force on the siwash (sp) hook at install.
Done that before.....
Re-rigged and put it back down and a half hour later bang another one.
This time was going to be different.
First I thought it was an undersize as it was just one hit on the rod and not a big hit either.
Grabbed the rod and felt some head shakes but still thought it was small until the first run.
Peeled line and was wondering if it would stop... Little bigger then I thought.
She started to run the boat and I reeled as fast as I could.
Then she turned around and ran back out peeling line like before.
Turned again and came at the boat with me cranking like the house was on fire.
What do you know the darn fish turned for the third time and peeled line again.
So there you have it ... 3 good runs and she must of been tired as she swam slowly back to the boat and in the net.
Hi fives and a quick bleed and into the locker.
Large?? maybe a solid 20#, for this side it's a good fish.
Lines back down and the decked cleaned and were fishing.
Now the other side goes off.
That side had a spoon I call the Western Producer, for you guys that know me.
Nice fight but not the same as the last.
My fishing partner had it well in hand at at the side of the boat when... the hook broke off.....
Darn crap china hook on that c-spoon.
2 broken hooks on three bites.... Never seen that before.
Time to change out my partners gear with some new hooks.
Great day out on the water with hardly a breeze.
Great fun with my buddy as we don't get out together as often as I would like.
Bunch of other boats out there but did not notice if anyone else had any luck.
Might have to see what an O dark 30 might bring in.
Yup, what a difference a day makes.....

Must of missed this one GLG...good for you and your pal. Over the years, we have had the odd batch of bad hooks too, best to throw them all away and try another brand. sometimes the hooks were just bending and then snapping back into shape...we didn't figure it out right away and it caused us to lose some fish. Glad you guys got some good ones.

The Hook he speaks of came out of my box and my tie up #5 mustad side wash I gave it to Gil to try out for helping me with some work he helped me with on the Boat. I feel bad he broke it on a Fish but I have to say I've never had one Break or bend out of that Box of hooks. Glad u didn't share the Hootchie type Gil. LoL

Hey Rob I can tell u most fish are at 180 but that wouldn't be accurate cause what size of cannoballs do I use? Which direction are we trolling with the tide or against? What speed are u going? Oh yeh how long a leader? Flasher? How far back from the clip? What part of the Hump? So many variables lol I love fishing!! But don't ask me what Hootchie is working cause so far its definately been a variety pack for me. Rob u tell me your Snapper hole and I will share some info lol. Cheers bro tight lines! See ya out there

Well Duff, all those things won't change the fact that the fish are at 180...........just how you get to them...........but they don't stay at that depth, you're right, fish do swim. I've got my preferences out there, sometimes they work, sometimes not. Don't really care what hootchie you were using, I rarely use them at Kitty. Spoons, hotspots, anchovies all work great for me. Biggest thing I find is the color of the water and the light of the day. Wouldn't get that snapper hole from me for any number of filets (de mignon)

Where is Kitty Coleman?

It is just north of Comox Two miles straight out from the launch at kitty coleman provinical park. They have a map on thier website. Good luck.

Let's not let this thread go sideways.

Was out with Tortuga this morning for a pre lead melt quick fish.
Saw about ten boats out there with no nets hitting the water.
We could only stay for a short time as we got, things to do.
Managed a low teener to the boat, thanks to duffers hootchy.
Man he ties up some nice gear.

DFO were out with their RIB checking some guy in a small fishing boat.
Had him pulled over for 45 min then escorted him back to kitty ramp.
Wonder what was up with that.

Going to try Sunday to get out and hit kitty hard.

Hey GLG: Do you launch out of Comox? It's getting a little tough to launch out of Kitty Coleman when the tides are low. Thanks.;) eman

yup we went out of kitty ramp in tortuga's boat.
Me, nope cant launch with mine.
the retrieve was hard today at low tide.
Lucky tortuga has arms of steel as he had to winch the boat out of the sand.
Got to go as there is lead to melt.... and I'm late.

That was RCMP they checked me at oyster river they went through the safety checklist and checked all paperwork then wrote me a ticket for no violations -- I out in front of the oyster from 9:00 till noon and had no salmon bites.

Got out for a couple hours today. Got limits for the boys on my boat, they were happy. Springs were between 15-20#'s. Used the special hootchie and the good old spoon all fish caught below 200 ft. Hootchie 1....Spoon 3 Every fish was marbled/white.

Well done FA.
Fished from 2 till 5 with no hit, no errors.
Heard the bite was early. so we were late to show.

Needed New Fishing Buddies That Don't Lose Fish!!!!!!!

First 10mins 2 on and only one to the boat. Next 3 Bye Bye...Next one under sized..Then came the Jencourt Speciality.... Dog Fish.. :)

Big herring out there. Lots of bait.

Was so wonderful to see OBMG out there today. Thinking if they want to fish here I will tow my boat to CR and not have to fish around them. How nice that would be.

Gave Kitty a rub and went 2 for 5. Hootchies above 200. Bite was at 4ish and 1/2 hr before slack otherwise slow.
Both humps produced tonite. I personally chowdered 3. Port side got all 5 hits.
Not many nets out. I hear Campbell river was better.

Thanks for the reports guy's, will give it a try if the wind breaks.
Will report if I do get out there.
