King salmon season back on in Alaska

Exporters of environmentalism to other countries. Reluctant participants at home!

when you have the state on your side you can do whatever you want

The opinion said the state and others who were part of the appeal established a sufficient likelihood that certain and substantial impacts of the lower court’s decision “outweigh the speculative environmental threats.” The ruling will allow the fishery to continue while the appeals court considers the lawsuit more broadly.

The ruling “recognized the absurdity of closing down a vital economic industry for an issue that is already being remedied by the federal government,” Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor said in a statement. “Thanks to the 9th Circuit, fishing season is on come July 1.”

Now our local NGO groups are going after commercial industry customers, and the ocean wise label certification. Very targeted wording.

"Wild salmon are part of who we are and are especially vital for Indigenous communities. Dwindling salmon stocks also affect our ecosystems, starving our bears, eagles and other wildlife. "

will be interesting to see if the seattle fishmongers carry it my guess it will be business as normal for them.

They’re already under pressure from the resident Orca huggers—-local restaurants are getting shamed into pulling chinook from their menus...the Alaska/BC dynamic is not even on the radar screen...it’s all about the starving Orcas and getting them more salmon to eat

Draggers/trawlers are an extremely wasteful and damaging way to fish. Not only do they have large amounts of dead byecatch but the damage they do to the bottom is incredible.
