Interior BC Early spring Lake Trout fishing

I'm just getting the boat ready for the first fishing of the year and have heard of some good luck on some of the local Okanagan Valley lakes. I would like to target Big lake trout but have not fished for them this early in the season and have read some decent articles in some recent magazines but I'm getting some conflicting info from some of the locals. Mostly about what depth to be fishing at. I understand that I should be looking for the schools of Kokanee on my fish finder and targeting just below their depth but I spoke with one individual who says he caught a 15 and 21 lb laker at 100' bottom bouncing. which I would think would be well below the Kokanee as we are finding them around 25-45' and would be where I would target in the summer. It has been a warmer than usual spring so is this maybe why?

Any ideas welcome
