Hey you trailer guys--leaf spring rebound clips---necessary or not?

I inspected my double axle trailer today and noticed that out of four leaf springs, only one set has a full pair of rebound clips. The other 3 leaf springs sets have either just one rebound clip or zero.

How does this effect the performance of the trailer when under load--- are these clips an important part of a leaf spring build

thanks your comments

tThey are in that they prevent the main leaf from doing 100% of the work on rebound, idf they are not there, tthe leaves open up and do not assist the main leaf.

Thanks for that Gunga

so, not a good idea to do a long road trip without them???

do you think I could jury-rig with stainless pipe clamps?

those rebound clips look pretty flimsy and the remaining ones are rusted up big time

you can get kits that essentially are designed for home installation if your lower spring has a hole or an indent for the clip to position itself. the clip goes through a flat plate with two slots for the clip. Once you put the clip ears through the slots, just hammer them ove and voila your done. Any spring shop should be able to get the size you need.
