Heard some news today that Ontario and Manitoba are going to step up to keep the program going.

OTTAWA – The Ontario government is offering to save a world-renowned freshwater research facility, the Experimental Lakes Area, that is having its federal government funding cancelled.

Can't believe (or can I) the Feds chose to close the ELA down. Thankfully the provinces of Manitoba and Ontario are stepping up. Our short-sighted Feds are systematically killing important projects such as this and it's a shame that provinces and other organizations are having to carry the load. FYI - for those who don't know (and I just learned recently) the ELA is the primary reason we learned about acid rain, the causes and how to fix it. What is the $$$ benefit of findings like that? Apparently less than the $1-2 million it takes to operate this project .... at least in the eyes of Mr. Harper.
