early season salmon results last year vs this

Curious the concensus the avid fishers feel concerning the numbers of salmon etc. last year verses this. Most were pretty negative on the amount of salmon last year, where they were & how they were biting. As we are well into June now, how does your own early season stats compare? Better, worse or about the same? Whats your feeling on what to expect & maybe explain why?

Tofino area has as many Chinook if not more, Halibut are here now in good numbers a little later than last year, and Coho are Far Far more abundant and better size average.

Presense of Needlefish is very noticeable compared to last year, as well as "average" water temps.

Steelhead was/is great, and usually is juxtaposed with Coho numbers for the same season, so we have a good outlook overall.

We'll know the real truth when the rod is bent towards the water.....

In the nanaimo waters I've caught more springs then anytime in recent years, and most locals who fish consistantly have been getting good resaults.
Several reports of coho this year aswell make for a pretty impressive early season.

my two cents

I'm happy to hear some area's are seeing marked improvement
However in my area,(19 south) i have had the worst
fishing in the last 10 years.:(
blame it on habitat destruction, ocean warming, over fishing
whatever...
bottom line, the fish just are not there any more.
I look forward to fishing Sooke, Renfrew in the coming months,
and only hope that the fisheries there can sustain the pressure
our southcoast area once bore.
I am not a pessimistic person, just a realist.
I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for better things to come.
