Dismal returns for Chinook on the Fraser.

But Misty MacDuffee, wild salmon program director for the Raincoast Conservation Foundation, said the daily results from the Albion test fishery on the Fraser had already demonstrated the need for a complete closure of both marine commercial and sport fisheries on chinook, in order to leave prey for the whales

The data from that test is scewed by ****** returns in May June and July.

Most of that run is hands off for recreational and commercial fishermen but is available to First Nations for FSC purposes.

Funny how she calls out the two groups that can’t fish for early Fraser chinook.

I guess that’s her job tho find data use it to your advantage and then spew it all over social media for donations

She is in a National paper putting out her message.

The public sees her message and believes it, as there are no other messages out there.

The message is to stop fishing till the Killer Whales are ok.

488K for the entire season in 2017, and 307K so far this season at Bonneville. There were big concerns going into this season due to almost no chinook smolts showing up in the test trawl fishery off Oregon and Washington last year. We did notice a lot of clipped chinook out-migrant smolts in Barkley Sound in August of 2017, so it appears that there was something wrong with the water off Oregon that pushed them north very early. Looks like a y/y continuing trend for poor out-migrant ocean conditions for OR and WA. Hopefully the water conditions and food was better as they travelled north.

She's all alone on that. The international scientific community disagrees with the one hit wonder message. The problem is far more complex than the simple message they are putting out. More fake news aimed at finding win/lose solutions and driving membership sales. Next will be a message that the whales are dying from starvation - which is simply not true either. Too much of a hurry to slow down to get to the bottom of what actually is the problem, and where the best most effective solutions come from. I think there is always a way to achieve balance that finds win/win solutions.

SEATTLE --Draft recommendations from the governor's southern resident killer whale task force were released Monday, shedding light on a plan to help save the endangered orcas.

The draft is filled with actionable items meant to address issues the orcas face, like prey availability, toxic contaminates and vessel traffic.

The 45-member task force will have time to suggest changes before the final report is due to Gov. Jay Inslee's office on Nov. 16. From there, the governor might take executive action or bring recommendations to the state legislature.

The report is far-reaching, with more than 50 potential actions to take within the first year, some of which require legislative approval. Many are intended to deal with the lack of salmon, considered the number one problem facing the southern Resident killer whales.
