DFO Online Consultation on Regulating Aquatic Invasive Species

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is developing a regulatory proposal to manage and control aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Canada.

The Department is seeking initial input regarding the intent to regulate AIS generally, and is interested in identifying which stakeholders are currently affected by AIS or may be affected by AIS regulations in the future.

This online questionnaire is available until February 1st 2013 for you to provide your input, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada will also be pursuing other opportunities for further consultations.

In British Columbia, examples of aquatic invasive species include European green crab in the saltwater and largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike in our lakes and streams. Aquatic invasive species can have significant impact on our native ecosystems and their natural inhabitants. To find out more about aquatic invasive species, please visit this page.

Done-- no importation of harmful critters into BCs ethnic markets. And somebody--Please talk to the Buddists about trying to get to heaven by releasing a critter they bought from the local fish market fish tank. Also-- if the critter is potentially harmful to BC if it gets out of someones living room fishtank-- MAKE IT ILLEGAL.

History - Smishtory. Look who published the report. Atlantic Salmon don't belong here, they are creating a problem here, they ARE invasive.
