Deep Drop in the Strait

Dropped to about 1000 feet, north of Texada yesterday. Pretty easy to hold bottom, slow drift. But, only dogfish - the darker colored ones from the abyss.

Any suggestions on where to do this in the Strait or around CR, where we might catch something worthwhile?

I've been thinging of getting an electric reel for the same purpose. sometimes you just have to work your way through the dogfish to get some thing worthwhile

As RC said, put on a glow squid jig and work it in the 300-1000' range. Watch the Garry Cooper video. Also, there is a thread on here.

We tried up in Homfray Channel a few years back and loaded up on dogfish. Couldn’t get through the doggies on both drops.

Dog fish is delicious. Two fast fillets with rapala knife as soon as caught then same with skin. Place fillets in 50/50 vinegar water coupla hours. Can leave overnight. Pat dry. Tblsp butter, tsp olive oil bit of fried onion (remove) salt/pepper and dash of cajun, then fry up no flour. (Works with smaller dogfish .....have not tried for large ones which may have mercury and probably too strong a taste.)

Last year off bell bouy at Comox down in 200 - 300' jigging with white twister tail caught some nice (delicious) Pacific Cod.

Go deeper, but dogs are pretty much everywhere.
