Cowichan River

Has anyone heard what the forecasts are for the cowichan? I talked to the native fisheries officer yesterday afternoon and he said they've only counted around 100 fish up the river so far at their weir

no there counting them at 2 places their weir right in duncan and the ladders up stream

The Cowy is the lowest I've seen it in years. Last year Catalist,who controls the weir at the lake end,pulsed the river
on Sept.10th. to allow the springs to get up the river. The fish are basically trapped down low and between the seals
at the mouth and the spearers in the river they don't stand a chance! With no rain in sight for at least the next week or
so,I think it's more than time for Catalist to "open the flood gates"

Are FN spearers still every day....Last year they cut back a few days a week. I wish they would just not do it...and give it some time to rebound.....Especially with no rains in forecast for some time...

Low water makes for better spearing - you better believe they're taking advantage of the situation.

All they do is sit there and pick them off every time the tide goes up and down.
