From the Province Newspaper today.

The fate of a wild salmon run on the Seymour River hangs on a giant rock the size of a bus.

The rock is barring the way to spawning grounds for 40,000 coho — the biggest wild run of its kind on the North Shore.

red tape and bureaucracy are the obvious money grabs in a situation like this... some ol school engineering would have this done in days for less than 30k.

DFO, first Nations and the district of north all opposed of clearing the rock slide. they where more than happy leaving the the slide in and shutting down the hatchery. first nations came on board once the fish ladder paid job was offered to them. money raised by hatchery was all public, no gov funding. the district dis allowed the blasting ,even when the hatchery came back with 30m liability and engineers report. the happy news is they are sluff blasting many more times and have the spring run off to help blow out the smaller rocks. hopefully opening up the river again.
