circle hook and herring

So whats the best way too hook a herring on a circle hook for halibut. Up to this season I have been using tandem hook rigs. one in the eye and one lateral toward tail.

Thinking circle hook through the eye and back through the body is the way to go? Or do you pull leader through the herring"s eye and hook the circle further down the herring's body ? I heard one suggestion of half hitching the leader on the herring after hooking the eye? This looks like the herring would hang tail up and could be hard on leaders?

So what do you guys do ?

I go thru the back by the dorsal fin and half hitch around the nose so i pulls from the head

How do you avoid the half hitch tying itself in a knot under pressure?
