Cheap/Effective Rockfish Jigs

The thread on Mooching weights reminded me that I rarely use them anymore but have found a use for them, just using things I have sitting around.

Below see parts all self explanatory

Parts assembled.Mooching weight hit with a white spray bomb, 2' of 80# mono used as leader.

Some Halibut Jigs using much the same method/material.

Do you lads ever use bait like salmon belly, black lable herring, Squid, Shad, Black Cod fillet, or Kokanee?

Halibut fishing in Oregon is an all bait show. Jigs for all other bottom fish but not halibut.

Sometimes I put a bit o' belly on a hook sometimes inject fish attractant of some description into it too then they don't spit the thing as fast.

A longtime fishing friend showed me that he used tire weights before. driled a hole in one end for the split ring hook and the other with a split ring and swivel. He said with the curve they flutter perfect. Makes sense. Never tried it yet.

Don't forget to heat up the treble hooks right on the bend with a lighter or even a butane torch - That way when you snag 'em, they bend and you can get 'em back.
