Canadian parliamentary panel takes aim at BC halibut quota rules

On Wednesday the committee gave instructions to its staff to draft a series of recommendations that they hope to have brought back to the panel this month before taking the report to the full House of Commons by April at the latest. If the report follows the bulk of testimony presented, it can be expected to include suggestions that would make BC's quota rules more like those maintained in Atlantic Canada and the US state of Alaska, where quota generally must be held by commercial harvesters.

The quota system is warped and unfair. It pays to toss campaign cash at political parties. I’m seeing that pathetic reality more and more every day.
