Bike chain steering

The "dockyard " steering on my boat uses a bike style chain to steer in back of the boat ... anyhow it keeps falling off , I have found a siezed link . I soaked it in oil and that didnt help .. any ideas

cut the link out andhammer pin outworkit regrease put pin backinor put in new link.before it falls off in emergencyand you have no steering.
 
The solution on a bike is to flex it back and forth "across the chain" to release the pressure on the bearing. Time consuming, but a simple fix. You may want to apply a degreaser to the chain and then re-lube.
