Algea Blooms???

I did two charters the day before yesterday into Desolation Sound and saw an algea bloom like I've never seen before. The surface of the water was red for kilometers in a bloom that was so thick the pitch of the engine changed as you ran into it and the wake sprayed up red. Must have been a quarter inch thick and completly opaque.

Anyone else seeing more blooms than usual this year???

Never seen anything that bad before.... literally a red tide. I've seen it where the waves hitting the beach would look a little reddish before, but nothing like what you're describing.

Doesn't bode well for any clamming this year in your neck of the woods! Probably means that the rest of the inside will be soon to follow.

I've seen this several times in the saanich inlet - it looked like the entire inlet was full of blood, but I'm sure its only the top surface that is "blooming". I did catch a spring during one of these blooms if thats of any interest.
