Coal is nice too. Might even be easier

Its the same distance; the drive is easier, but they charge you to launch and park and that can be a PITA as you might have to park the trailer in one place your truck in another. AND there used to be some petty crime there. PA is free. The crab is better in PA and you can launch in pretty well all tides but less than 1m.

If you do drive, stop in a WFP office in Holberg (if it is still open) and let them know your heading to WH. They will give you an up date on the road, the traffic and will let their workers know you are heading out. Ans stop and have a burger and beer and the Scarlet Ibis!

Cheers

Anyone know if they are selling flake ice at Qualicum this year?

Yes they have flake ice at Quallicum this year.
We just returned from 4 day trip out in WH, the weather was challenging, however we managed to get off shore a couple mornings to get our limits of ling and hali in a short period of time. The first blowy day we tucked in behind the light and limited on our spring salmon, with 5 of us in the boat, which we were surprised as it is a bit early in the season. The next blowy day we hammered our way across to gooding cove and limited again by 11 am. Then back in to pack up before the 40 kn winds were coming on Thursday. Overall the weather was challenging, but the fishing was amazing!! Tight Lines!

We are headed up next weekend for a week. What where you using for the springs? Did you get into any coho?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck up there, we were using the Irish cream skinny G, behind a chartreuse flasher. Tried naked skinny G with no results. We did pick up a couple coho tacking between Cliff and Harvey cove, around the 4lb mark. The squid should be in Grants bay when you get there, it was to nautical to go north while we were there, but did just fine on the inside.

Thanks for the info, I will post our results when I get back.
Greatly appreciated.

4 of us just got back from 5 days at Winter Harbour with limits of everything. Chinook were biting well for 3 of the 4 mornings in Grants Bay. The 4th day we searched Grants, Gooding and Cliff with zero success. Finally got into them at noon at Kains and put 3 in the boat and lost 2 others between noon and 4:30. Also put 4 coho in the boat at that time. Had best success at Grants with the Bon Chovy and Trailhead Skinny G fished naked with either a chartreuse or black/glow dummy flasher. Had better success at Kains with the Irish Creme Skinny G and chartreuse dummy flasher.

Fish were feeding on 1.5” needle fish. No signs of any squid yet.

Had to load 22’ boat onto trailer at a -0.3 foot tide on Friday. Not easy but got er done after a second try!

Hey just new to fishing under surfline regs. Can you fish inside cliff point for springs, or only outside cliff and along shoreline within a mile of shore? The reason am asking i don't have all those points from fisheries in my plotter, so trying to make sure where i will be fishing is legal. Thanks.

For whatever reason (only DFO knows) the Coho retention maps are out but not the Chinook.

WCVI Boundary Line - Shoreward
Annual Limit Pieces10
Daily Limit Pieces2
Minimum Size (cm)45 cm
Possession Limit Pieces4

Use the map link for the surfline;

Fished june 25. 8:30am-6pm
3 halibut in quick order and 14 pound salmon by 10am off between grants and kains.
1 10 pound salmon and some rock fish to fill the void between 10-6. Slow. Trolled Herring was the ticket. Off to Rivers Inlet next weekend to see whats lurking up there.
