Well today was a bit of a whirlwind for weather, after checking the webcam at Esquilmalt and Harling Point 6-8 km was the wind, headed down to the ramp, arrived at the ramp at about 7:45, and the wind was starting to pick up. By the time we launched the flag was flying straight, probably blowing 15-20 knots with a short chop. A small boat headed out about 5 minutes before us, as we were pulling out, he was already coming back in. We had some waves coming over, splashing the windshield, but we said, we‘re here, it’s supposed to die down, let’s give it a whirl. Dropped the traps off and as we were going to drop the second trap, we almost ran over another trap that was submerged. We pulled it up. Does any one know a Matthew Michalsk (phone number doesn’t work)

Went out and started fishing for halibut by 9:15. Hung out for a while, wind complexity died down and it was glass for a few hours, then at about 1:45 the bite was on, we had a hit that didnt stick, then my buddy got a double header on one rod, pulled up about a 10lb halibut and a dogfish?? About 10 minutes later we had another hit that didn’t stick, and then as he dropped the line down, literally had a fish on as soon as he hot bottom. We had 5 hits within an hour. Packed up and headed out to retrieve the traps at 3:30. 1 trap, 4 with 2 keepers, the other trap, no bait and the trap empty. 1 was was 64 (a chickens chicken) & the other was 84. Both caught on herring with a bit of salmon collar attached.

Was out today and had a mixed bag of weather. Snotty running out to my spot in the mud hole. Boat was side ways in the slope but it did calm down to nice flat water and the flood was no where near as fast as the charts predicted. Nothing a big fat goose egg, no dogs or hits. Crab traps had 4 nice keepers which help to salvage the day

Tried some halibut fishing outside the traffic lanes off Oak Bay today from about 0730- 1030. Lots of dogfish but no halibut. Would have stayed longer but the wind came up and it was a little lumpy.

Can someone explain why when we get good currents for Hali fishing the winds seem to always blow. Suppose to lay down Thursday, but I can’t go out due to prior commitments

It's all about the conservation of momentum. Basically, momentum cannot be created or destroyed. So when the currents slow down the wind must pick up to maintain balance so that dissatisfaction is maintained.

FYI boys

They were doing live fire exercises when I was out there a few weeks back. 3-4 go fast zodiac lookin boats with 50cals on the front. Sitting on the pic and you could hear the shots and then the impacts. It was pretty cool.

Did a trip today down revisit the same spot 2xxeagle16 and I picked up a couple 2 weeks ago. Current was pretty hot when we got there for mid ebb in the morning. Hot enough we dragged anchor and reset twice before getting dug in.
Finished out the ebb and swung around nicely with the current not really coming down at all. Mid flood we picked up a twenty pounder and that was it for hali. 2xx would say I won the dogfish tournament but he’s a fisherman and we all know they lie…
