2018 Columbia River Summer – Fall Migration Update

Numbers have not improved much for Chinook at the Bonneville dam. Fall adults are at about 176K vs last years 297K (59%) and vs the TYA of 509K (35%). For jacks they are 82% of last years run and 37% of the TYA. With the jack run 18% lower than last year I would have to guess next years forecasts will be closer to this years return.

More and more evidence we can pump out increasing numbers of smolts but if we snooze and avoid controlling problem pinniped predators it’s effort in vein.

Because less and less people live off the land, go hunting or fishing. People are blinded to the effects that apex predators can have an populations of prey.

Environmentalists are not blind to this but they simply just believe that seals and Killer whales should be allocated salmon before humans.
