just a government that recognizes importance of fishery economically, and actually is doing something based on fish declines...I know its a strange concept...
 
Endangered Species Act and Washington State law required development of recovery plans. It didn't have anything to do with the government of the day recognizing the economic importance of fishery. Basically, their existing laws said they had to do something.

Yeah, THAT guy....lol. I wish our legislation (Fisheries Act) wasn't tinkered with by that guy in that photo. In that respect, our government didn't set a very good example.

In WA alone, hydro spends 350-400 million a year on salmon recovery. BC Hydro spends 3-4 mill. Nothing left over after the province's cash demands are met.

Gotta love those Okanagan sockeye returns though. New Penticton hatchery has 2 million eggs in incubation as we speak. The program has been very successful so far with just half a million fry released annually, next phase looks promising with more spawning habitat now accessible and passage into Okanagan Lake to be opened possibly as soon as this year.
