Fact is we are all getting a little fed up of the whining and by that we mean people complaining about things we think are unimportant, while our really, really valid complaints are ignored. Part boredom, part endless information, some true some total BS and the endless daily handing out of billions that no one seems to be keeping a tally on, we’re all getting a little sick of Covid if not sick from it. Anyway the only constant is change. Hang in there everyone.
 
I don’t have anyone in my family or extending family that is still working. Dentist assistant, Kal tire, realistate and my cousin work works for CN just got laid off on Friday.

The pain is very much real and I’m sure it’s very similar for most.

The argument regarding people massing at boat ramps is minor compared to what you can see at a Costco store prior to opening. Same argument can be made on any sidewalk or inside any retailer after the customers get in and prior to them lining up to pay.
People have to exercise caution and need to get used to it, it’s not going away. Having said that though we need to ensure the rules are valid, make sense and have a means of enforcement.

Lots of soap and water or hand sanitizer as well. We’re going to have to adjust and be much more careful because things probably will not, if ever, be the old normal.Remember when we used to find it curious people wore masks? Just last fall in Greece an Asian tourist wearing a mask came into the shop we were in and the little old Greek lady said to her “ Good morning Doctor”.
 
I've been an advocate for hand washing and hygiene standards way before this COVID-19 crisis happened. Way too often I saw people using the urinals in a public mall or another public place and just walk out without washing their hands. Absolutely disgusting but I had no business in telling strangers to wash their hands. I only say something if it's someone I know that's doing it. Some even come out of the stalls straight out the door.. and some touching up their hair with their dirty hands... Anyways what I want to say is I'm glad people are learning to have higher hygiene standards, but I never wished for us to learn in such a hard way.
 
Nobody is going bankrupt. JT has an endless supply of hug money for everyone. He just has to get to you if he hasn't yet. The thing that's really crazy is some of my trades are literally raking in the cash from the wage subsidies, rent deferrals/payments and the loan. Any tradesman that is still billing hourly for his workers and getting paid in full is laughing right now.

think about in 3-4 years. How the **** is anyone ever paying this back ?!?! HIGH as balls taxes is the only way. I’m for helping small businesses but you can’t burden the future to the Point there’s no coming back (do not even try n say print more money...dumbest thing anyone could say)

They were talking about that on CBC national news tonight that it’s going to be very difficult to wein people off these programs and it may in fact suit the government more not to try to politically

Thank goodness your not the one calling the shots, you obviously have next to no heart for small business owners that have put all their savings into it and work tirelessly to make a living. Anyone who at this point cares more about how we're going to pay it back must have nothing to lose. Put your house on the line while trying to figure out how your going to feed your kids if help was cut off, that's the reality for many small business owners. I'm not it that position but I definitely support them all and thank you Canada for stepping up to help these people and small businesses from going under. Even with the help some may still go under as their expenses exceed income it will just buy them time with hopes the economy opens up in time. There's always a bad apple in the bunch that takes advantage but for the most part people are in need. Canadians needed help now and they got the funds to who needed it pretty damn quickly, there was not enough time to thoroughly vet every person and business. You have to remember small business is a big tax collector for the government. Right now we deal with the Pandemic looking after Canadian health and small business among a few other things. The ones who want to push the gray area and not follow the rules are potentially patting sod on the faces of the generation that fought in the war and were a major part of creating the country we have today. After this is past then we will worry about the budget, one battle at a time. Let's lose the me attitude and look after us all Canadians, that's what's important.

uhhh. Have a small business but at the same time how is running a 200 billion dollar deficit in the long run going to help ANYONE in Canada ?! Not saying don’t help but this is a deficit that is virtually Impossible to recover from Again. You’re the one that said print money non stop as a solution so not going to take much stock into statements.

Yes IMO this will hurt the retired people the most who have a nest egg in cash. They may find in lasting a lot less then they expected and their has been almost no programs announced for our seniors.

Young people have along time to recover and will.

Although who knows we are still in the beginning off all this and goal posts seem to be changing daily. We are all learning no one really can say.

Fun to vent and speculate that’s what forums are for.

The effort to keep us at home is about acceptable losses. Hospitals that are not overwhelmed at any given time. It won't be long before changes take place in my opinion.
1) People will resist the isolate order more and more after weeks of isolation and uncertainty. Wage loss, personal sacrifice, and all the rest will wear thin shortly and has already. Taking the risk will seem worth it to live more normally. We will likely still try to practise social distancing and make efforts to stay alive while we resume more normal activities. Society will be changed forever in many ways.
2) The government will reopen the economy and calculate how they can do it in ways that will allow acceptable losses and not overwhelm the healthcare system. Restaurants, stores, shopping will all be changes forever. Working from home will be the new normal. Things will be done differently, legislation will be used to enforce some changes.

Hang in there, the new normal is coming, and money will flow again. IMO.

PS I can't wait to go out for dinner and go fishing!
 
I was just out from Vancouver to the mid Straits for a few days. I launched from the marina in NV and filled my tank at Chevron Coal Harbor where the guys handed me a pair of gloves and the pump, no hugs per SOP whenever I fill there. I saw very few rec boaters between Vancouver and Texada, even less than typical. I had around 10 hours each day on board with the vhf monitoring 16 and I did not notice a single call out from Victoria CG radio, at all. It would be interesting to know what region on the Coast is producing an increase in calls? C Tow is fully operational by the way and in my case I tie up in a private slip, unstaffed, and walk the beach to our cabin seeing no one.

I did encounter a dfo zodiac on my way home and the crew was equipped with N95 masks and gloves through our interaction. They did not board but did ask to see my license and checked my gear on one side only.

Yes there is a chance if I hit rocks and had to be extracted from the water to any such rescue vessel's crew but that's in the extreme. Also maybe I read it wrong but it seems CG insulates rec boaters are ignoring others in distress? Not this one anyway.

So I take this as another govt fella yelling the sky is falling to keep the unwashed masses at bay. Most boaters I know are super careful and plan to enjoy successful and safe travels, no reason to expect any other outcome during covid. I appreciate that some ports of call are not stoked for boaters to come landing so plan accordingly. Who knows, boating could be shut down too if it can be proven that community transmission of covid 19 occured via a boater on a micro scale to a cruise ship. May as well close the roads then too.
 
The JT government is so quick to fork over LARGE sums of our tax money, annually to special interest groups and abroad, in random foreign aid and causes. In a unique time like this to extend the olive branch to those who helped plant/grow the olive tree it's a good call, cut the fat on a majority of that fringe/foreign spending for 4 years probably wouldn't even notice this. For those in small business that require a bridge, glad this is available. In business you generally shoulder all risk but share widely.. all reward.
