2017 OFFISHALL Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

We need " Keep Catchers " , similar to CreepCatchers (sting operations to catch creeps trying to have sex with minors).
A similar type of group that would run some stings and catch these A-holes that pull traps and Keep our gear/crab/prawns with video tape evidence for the police. Hopefully one day all these poachers will get caught and
properly punished.

Sorry to derail the thread.... now back to the fishing reports.
Nice to read the reports of fish being caught, seems like the fishing is starting to improve.

i saw that boat cruising slowly thru the freighters yesterday.. we have not seen him actually pull traps yet....but will try to bait him this coming next couple weeks...
..looks like he is moored in false creek somewhere.
not at our Fishermens wharf as we checked.

See them all the time
Unless your in a submarine you won't catch them , they have a look out guy on the top deck with a huge set of binoculars scanning ...
by the time you get close he's dumped ... right on time same thing every year they know we all dump our gear and leave for trolling ...

I know derail just so we all know how they are working it ...

I beleive it is because of the algae blooms or something just below the surface in that area. My sounder was not working out at the hump today also. Only reading. 25-35ft deep.

Picked up a 13lb white spring down 245ft on a coho killer.
Mine also does the same!!

I try turning down the sensitivity a bit and set the top depth manually to about 30-40' then power the unit off completely and repower it up...I can sometimes punch through the top "blanket" this way. Although the power may not be enough to show all the fish it could still show some differences under there that may help, sometimes some faint returns at a constant depth can indicate a likely travel depth for salmon. Not sure if its change in water temp, debris or some kind of life...If I cant get to that point then its full screen GPS and feet up with a good spread on the rods, I love fishing tidelines after working structure all winter!

and where has that gotten them ( although I would agree they have done a great job ).... they now have a day in court...

what kind of trap and how deep please.. i have tried in barclay sound with no success... always kelp craps and red rocks..

Heading out Friday early. Are all these guys limiting out at Thrasher or is the hump just as good right now? Want to know if it's worth the extra gas. Plus I still use manual riggers so Thrasher depths are a lot of work! :/

300-600ft deep

I use a custom trap. 40x42" square
Looks like a deadliest catch king crab trap except it's mesh instead of net

Search for crab man offshore trap
