Well, look at the calendar. It always picks up around now

I'm pretty much just kidding around. But if those big predicted runs don't show up soon then it will not be good for sustainability. I'm only kidding around, but it won't be funny if they don't show up soon. Hopefully big fish are just around the corner. Most reports from all over the island haven't been too good so far. Hopefully things are just about to change. The reports have been very poor for the great predictions so far from all over the island. We better hope the fish are a little late otherwise it's another huge **** up from the DFO with their run predictions. I guess I shouldn't be surprised if they're wrong yet again, mostly I'm surprised when they get it right. Hopefully the fish are on their way.

I think we all hope for a turn around! I'm just trying to keep my chin up through all the poor reports and wait for the fish to come around! If this was the way the year goes it would be an abrupt stop and may be indicative of what the future holds. Or it could just be a bad year. But I'm thinking fish are coming....

Got out 5-11 today for a fish at salmon rock-Gower-bonnie brook after camping on Keats last night. Got one just undersized at 75' anchovies sticking out of its mouth, lots of bait around. Got a 2 crabs but some ******* ripped the arms off one.

Why would you assume a person is responsible for pulling the arms off a crab?

Tried the Bell yesterday for a few hours in the afternoon for part of the flood (12-3:30), a few other boats around - no nets out, no bites. Sounds like I should have been in West Van.

New Salmon closures for area 29-6,7,9,10. Just fish outside these boundaries till July 31. Will be interesting to see if all our friends the KEEPERS OF THE LAND AND SEA will face the same closures ......... If not we should all be able to fish. Sick and tired of special treatment for many that contribute almost nothing to the good and we fare of our fish and wildlife.
One law for all.

Get out there and have some fun ........

The rest of the world has a name for it...
its called "RACISM"
South Africa abolished it many yrs ago.
They copied Apartheid after our Indian Act.
The problem is , no Political party has the balls to open the Constitution and change it.

The courts have said otherwise. Ranting about it on a public forum accomplishes nothing. We do not make the laws, but we are still obligated to respect the fishing regulations. The guys on the southern Vancouver Island approaches have had to throw back all large springs for a while now. Do you think they are happy about that. This regulation has been in place many times for many years. For many years the Fraser mouth was permanently closed, not just a short spot closure. The closure is for conservation purposes and only in a limited area of the ocean for a short period of time. You better get used to these closures because they will only get more numerous and for longer periods of time as our fishing deteriorates. With global warming, over fishing, habitat degradation, fish farms, and many other factors putting pressure on our stocks things are only going to get worse over time. You better get used to closures because they aren't going away any time soon. I don't like them either, but at least I've come to accept them. You didn't even need a licence to fish in the ocean when I was younger, and there were no closures to speak of, times have changed. In ten years you'll be wishing we only had the closures we have now. Ranting about closures will not help improve things, conservation issues need to be addressed, that's just the sad reality of the state of our fisheries.

Gotta say, and this is prob the wrong place to have this conversation, but the factors your are listing BG wont change. Unfortunately, sport fisherman are prob the most responsible, but least powerful/best PC target. That being the case, and the fact we have the most **** poor people available to make decisions on "conservation", we are just the cannon fodder for a knee jerk "political" response.
Hell, why would they actually go after what is causing the problem, when they can pretend to by hitting a powerless group, then its job done...wheres my pension?
Why do you think a guy like Trump can get where he is? The ordinary masses are sick to death of this BS and they dont care who gets in as long as its not the establishment.

P.S. Global warming?? Pfft.

Oh you mean like all the responsible crabbers ripping the big claws off the crabs out there. I can see the odd crab losing a pincher, but every set I made this year had crabs missing one or more of the big claws. More than I could count missing the big claws this season. Pretty sad examples of following the regulations if you ask me. As well as being inhumane in the treatment of a valuable resource.

We all have to do our part for conservation. So the bananas closed for a month, big deal. Get over it, it's pretty much an annual closure anyways. People should be used to it by now. The fish have to swim by the adjacent waters to reach the banana. You simply fish the boundary approach waters, it's not that big a deal. It could be a lot worse, (and probably will be in the future).

But let the FN keep taking it ........ All is good. Keep them nets in the water . Till there is nothing left to even show it once existed ...... Like our once thriving logging and mining industry.

Others are correct this is really not the place for this conversation. I do not approve of the nets either. Unfortunately, the Canadian Supreme Court has decreed they have the right. We may not agree with that ruling as sports fishers, but that is the law of the land. The Supreme Court decides who has what rights, like it or not that is the rule of law in a democracy. Whining accomplishes nothing, the law is the law.

hahaha

dont worry , the fish are just around the corner lol

enjoy....

Just for that I'm going to drag my boat down the ****** dirt road all the way to Poet Nook. I'm going to rig my faulty bilge pump with a switch to toss a major fish repelling charge through my Ali hull and drive circles around your boat. You'll never see a fish all summer just for that one. A little extra wiring but but for you I'd go the extra mile.

Just kidding of course, but now you'll always wonder if there's a Harbercraft in the vicinity and your not catching any thing. Ha ha
:)

Ran across to Thrasher this morning, shakers and a couple of pin poppers that didn't stick.
Blowing pretty good chovie and green stripe hoochie from coffey to Gretzky. Couple rookies on the boat didn't help with the rough conditions. Finally stuck a beauty bout 18 for the kids first keeper.
Then pop, cable snapped at about 75 feet, started repairs, swung a new tack with the kids dad on the wheel and he goes fish on, grab the rod for the kid and go to bring up rigger and that cable has snapped as well...WTF! Never in my 35 + years on the salt has that happened.
We were in 600' when the second one popped.
2 year old cables...go figure

Turned into the wind and pounded back to the south arm...rough ride back.

There were fish there for sure, tons of bait...

Gotta retool for Bam at the end of the month.
