Cabelas open in Nanaimo soon?

$18.99 for a Super Gold Betsy?.....I see a "market correction" is in order.......
You can get those way cheaper elsewhere.......

When i said snuggie i meant manly hunting blanket in a very soft 100% polyester.. Not the snuggie you bought your gramma off the home shopping channel..

Went to the opening today just for fun..............it wasn't. Maybe my hearing is sensitive or I'm just getting old and krotchety (or maybe I was just too close to the speakers) but it was painful. The music was OK but the volume was awfull. I've been to quieter AC/DC concerts. Anyway, the selection was pretty good; lots of neat stuff to drool over but I was NOT impressed with the prices. I really don't think Wholesale Sports or the Harbour Chandler have anything to worry about. Just for example, flashers ranged from $15.00 to $20.00. At Harbour Chandler the same ones range from $12.00 to $16.00. They will really have to sharpen their pencils if the want my business.

yes same for me was not impressed with the prices Ill be sticking with gone fishin and chandler

I'm waiting until the whole hype thing wears thin then I will check it out.

All the cheap guy's will be at home. More room for me and I'll be looking for that non existent cannon in the coming months :p.

The place is packed for every opening event. Like I said before, I feel for the surrounding business's. Parking is the only down fall of the store. Sure it will get to a dull roar eventually (just like the Washington locations) but it will do well here in Nanaimo. Nanaimo seems to be a testing ground for major stores. It's not called the Hub City for nothing and the Cabela brothers have had great success in their lives. I'm pretty sure their people have done their homework.

I will support the local guy's as well for fishing products. I like the clothing and food processing equipment that Cabela's offers. They have some pretty nice footwear, clothing, and "unique" home furnishings as well. Stuff you just can't get at any store locally. The taxidermy is enough to get me in the store!

I understand the comments about "flashers" but really guy's, go buy your stuff at the local stores and don't totally trash a new store that is employing how many people? hopefully local. They are a new business in town that is employing people that sell products that most of us on the board can relate to. Bad thing? I don't think so. There might even be members of this board that get a job there.

Cheers,
Sculpin

If you want to see the US model of a "dull roar" just walk into Target and look at there financials for their Canadian launch. I am sure they did their homework too. Canadians are just as broke as Americans if not worse its only the US retailers that don't want to admit it. Surely a guy working at Cabela's wage structure will not be purchasing flashers for the equivalent of 1/2 hours wages more. I am sure you could buy that cannon there though.

If they opened in Vic I would be first in line for any job. Going to check out store tomorrow on way to sheep hunting. I do want to ask about the buying on line portion, US stores ship free to your nearest store, this could be good here if I can order gun stock, penn carnage, clothing or ? that only they have, then ship to Nanaimo store for pick-up??

Yes.... In store and online ordering free pickup in store. No delivery charges. Try it don't like it.... Don't take it home. I like it :)

That is an attractive option especially for clothing although does a person have to order through Cabelas.ca for it to be valid?

just to clarify on the in-store shipping - this was a big disappointment (assuming I was told the correct information @ the VIP night) ... that in-store shipping from the website would be from cabelas.ca ONLY, NOT cabelas.com ... in case anyone has compared the two its a ford pinto to Ferrari comparison in terms of selection and price.

Yes but the same is true with many other companies. There's still another 50% or more probably that they do sell in Canada that's not available in the Nanaimo store, yet it's still available to us with free pick up.

And when they will match any online ad, how can you go wrong.... Shop smart or at the very least use you smart phone.

Where abouta is the store located, might stop in today on my way to Bam if it isn't too far of the highway?

I don't particularly agree with your analogy , Sculpin......

It's not our duty to shop there as good citizens because they created a few jobs.

It's THEIR duty to be competitive if they decide to build a store in a certain location.

Why would I would I buy something that costs, say , 20 dollars at that store when I can buy the exact same item just moments away for 15 dollars?

Most big box stores and chains can afford to offer lower prices.....and that's why just about everybody I know shops at them......for the lower prices and often greater selection.

You, me and all others are customers. They should be well aware that just about all customers are looking for the best bang for the buck (and also selection)

If they aren't the customer is going elsewhere......end of story.
