O-FISH-ALL 2014 Vancouver, Howe Sound, Sunshine Coast Reports Thread!

Was thinking of coming in from Langley today but was wondering what water (wind/chop/swell) conditions were like. I made the trip late last week only to have my daughter get sick after a short time and don't want to do that again.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thx

Gravol works for me and mine in the chop.

I would like to nominate myself as the worst sockeye fisherman in the lower Mainland. Absolutely brutal third trip out this morning. fish jumping all around us every other boat pulling in doubles and triples. My boat nothing.... Tried faster, slower, deeper, shallow, short leaders, long leaders, every flasher known to man, with dummies and without. just couldn't get a bite. So frustrating watching everybody else nail them one after another and getting no action on your own boat.

Got our limits again today. Out just as early as yesterday at the sandheads. Lines in at 7 done by 10 30. Finished off the day with a decent little spring.

Sorry to hear Marty, explain your typical setup and we can go from there (dummy flashers, distance between them, speed, where u set your lines behind your dummies etc)

In between t10 and north arm right now just off of yvr...

Pretty solid mid day bite at the moment. Just landed a double and seen nets out on the few boats that are around

I had the same kind of day yesterday Marty. The time out before that wasn't great but yesterday put me off fishing for the rest of the weekend. Almost seems too late to start rigging up dummies now. Looked around and nobody in Langley even has a clip to go to the wire short of cutting up full downrigger clips, which I guess I could. Started this season putting my faith in running Kone Zones, even stacked them yesterday. Ran shorter, ran longer leaders, ran faster, ran slower. My results were similar to yours. If it's any consolation.....you're not alone. Will try again next weekend.

We were hooking up on the turns. As soon as you straiten out bam, fish on. Tripples

Slow start in the morning at 9am boxed a couple lost a couple was flat and nice out there but slow fishing . in the afternoon when the wind picked up out of southeast and got choppy is when we found the fish. 5 in a row and then another a little later.. All about 550 feet of water and running the gear at 115 feet. I've been having great success running 30 inch leaders. Again running at speeds just where bubbles start to run down rigger cables.
Ended up with 8 and lost about 4 and the guys really enjoyed the fun!

I was out of town and just checking the forums now. I can't find anything on the winning fish / fisherman for the Labour Day Chinook Classic. Anyone know who and what won?

Fished sand heads and got 4 limits easily... Stayed away from the pack. Fish are a little deeper now (115 ish) than they were a few weeks ago. Tons of jumpers and fish on the sounder. I don't use dummies and don't believe you need them. I run 4 rods about 20ft apart on the rigger. I keep the flasher about 6 ft from the ball.run 18-20" leaders. It's not tuff. Bright uv flashers are the ticket! Go gettem while it lasts!! Watch for jumpers and try to stay with the schools!

Dandy smiley there Striker. Congrats, and so the a West Shore Show begins .....

Remember .... Right rod to rocks haha

Still need more sox while it's so handy ....... Good report Green 1

Fishwhen/Party....I spend many hours out there scratching my head wondering what is going on. Buddies knock out limits all around me while I plug away for 0-3 fish per day. I mimicked several setups which has killed sockeye right next to me, but my boat...can't seem to shake the looming skunk. The last two days have been better, but nothing compared to others around me.

I heard it was a novice fisher and a 25lb spring........Nice!!

Well where when and what's happening out there boys ....... Got a report of fish every where north arm area ..... Lots of sox jumping and reading as bottom at 80 feet on the screen in 450 feet ...... Any spring hook ups this AM

Good luck out there

Out tomorrow and maybe Wednesday will give a report when complete.

I was out yesterday for a few hours and did really well at first light near Iona. North Arm was producing really well early last week - first fish on before the second line was down 2 mornings in a row - but the last couple time out I just couldn't locate the big schools early at the North Arm so moved towards Iona til we found them.
Average depth has been about 75 ft, short leaders, 2 dummies. I only run 2 rods to avoid tangles. Early bite was the best, really slows down for me later in the morning.

Have to say, even though the freezer isn't completely full, I'm getting a little bored of sox fishing. They are fun, but too many of them come in like an old boot.
Gonna start targeting springs for the rest of the season I think. Or at least split my time on the water 50/50.
