There will be plenty of salmon still to catch when you are there. The crowds will indicate the hot spots. You can take the rental to most of the good spots on the outside around the lighthouse. I think Beno Creek is just off limit. But you dont need to go that far anyway; wash rock, maquinna, lighthouse - plenty water if the seas are calm. With an 8y old onboard you want to stay inside if its swelly and definitely take a light jigging rod and a few buzz bombs or other jigs - kids love it and every structure im Nootka will have at least some rock fish. It gets better the further you get to the outside.
Great, thanks Chris! Yes, not sure the kids will be on the boat the whole time either so when it is just adults we may have the opportunity to push out a little further (within the rules for the rental boat). About how long of a run is it from Moutcha out to those spots? Rental has a 90 main I believe. There is a mandatory 1 hour safety briefing before we can head out (for good reason), so unless I can request it the night before we'll probably miss the early bite on the first day of the rental anyway.

Moutcha will usually let you do the safety briefing the afternoon of the day before the rental if you wish. It will probably take about 45 minutes to get out past lighthouse in the rental.

I know that rental it's a bit large to fish solo two will be fine-it took me just over 30 minutes to the Lighthouse from Moutcha -- paying attention going out means an easier run back in when you're tired & sunburned.

Anyone have the updates on closures in Area 25 Is there a dfo map showing changes. I can't find one

Got my biggest Chinook ever today at Ferrer Rock a 38 lb! Hit a naked Coho Killer 10 ft above a flasher. A great fight and I was very lucky that one boat that almost ran it over through it in reverse in time.

A big thank you to Robert and Jim for another great trip to Port Eliza Lodge!

And take one or two lawn chairs for the passengers. There isn't anything to sit comfy on these rental boats other than
the drivers bench.

Ding! Ding! ring the tyee bell! Congratulations to Dave Brown (cohochinook) 20220714_161446.jpg

getting the biggest fish of the year and in the Port Eliza Lodge era at 38lbs! A well deserved great day on the water in Esperanza! maybe a bit of a just reward after his tireless efforts to expand access to the public salmon fishery in BC for all of us!

nice fish dident you get a tyee in Tofino last year,

Checked in to Nootka cabins around 6pm tonight after missing our ferry from Vancouver this morning.

Headed out to the Lighthouse for the evening bite and hooked into 7 or 8 Coho in the 3-6lb range and one 11 pound Chinook.
Everglow Ghost Flash Fly was the best producer. Chinook hit on 51/4" bait. A great first evennig of fishing. Now we just need to get into someb bigger Chinook and we're laughing.

As we docked the boat my dad unfortunately just f***ed it and hit the kicker into the dock breaking the metal rod which connects the kicker to the piston which is moved by our panther remote kicker steering system.

Wondering if anyone has any intel on on any boat mechanics in the area, or a welder or happens to have brought a spare rod for their panther unit they'd be willing to part with. I'll just a photo of it tomorrow. It would be a 5 minute weld job or i imagine nay boat mechanic would have apiece of rod that could jimmy rig it together.

Thanks

Helluva fish Dave! I'll be happy if us newbs can get into a couple that are legal size in a month or so. Nice work!

Slow fishing for Chinook at the lighthouse this morning. Couldn’t keep little 2 3 pound cohos of the lines though. Didn’t venture much further outside than the lighthouse as my brother was getting seasick. Anyone willing to share where they’ve been having luck with their Chinook?

go north up towards Maquinna and even more up towards Beano but if your bro doesn’t like the lighthouse he’ll be puking out his soul at Maquinna
