2021 Port Renfrew Reports

I am looking for a seaplane in/overnight guided day with a couple of friends this summer. Dates are flexy. When are the big dog hogs around and are there any guides that primarily cut plug?
Matt Wiley can cut plug
Steve French as well
If you call and explain to them the trip your looking for most guides that I know would way rather cut plug and “hog hunt” over someone showing up with there grocery list and whipping out to the bank

Thank you Bryce!

Thank you Bryce!
Both good suggestions by Bryce. Wiley's Sport Fishing for Matt and Seawind Fishing Adventures for Steve. Also if you want to chopper in instead of Float Plane there is a landing pad at Pacific Gateway where both these charters run out of. I seem to get bigger fish the last week in July and first week of August. Good Luck....

I managed to get a few days in last week after getting the boat ready and in the water for the season. I had an old friend and his son and a good friend of his along with me and my son. That's a bit of a tongue twister....lol Anyways pretty much a rookie crew to fishing and definitely Ocean fishing. We ran out to the Bank on Friday through a bit of chop but it laid down once we were on the anchor. Managed to get a couple of twin 28lbs Hali before the crew minus my son and I turned green and started chumming pretty hard...lol Came back in around noon after pulling the traps. Crabbing has picked up since Easter. Saturday was a bit rougher so I decided to head up the coast towards NitNat and spare them a repeat of the day before. A few small Salmon and one decent one that we never saw but fairly quiet after that. Made a few stops on the way back and let the kids jig a few Ling. Sunday was a beauty day water wise but they had to leave that day. Somehow I think they will be back. Hopefully by then some fish will have moved in and we may even get to keep one? lol

I didn't hear what the cause was but I would think more than one thing went wrong for it to happen. Lucky it was at the marina. Hopefully it all works out for him. I was watching on the webcam yesterday while they were getting bags on it and pumping it out.

Sounds like fun. Alas, Dr. Henry would not approve lol

1 Ling for about 7 Swiftsure drift passes in some rough water Saturday on our way to Bamfield. Only one other boat out there a 23 striped with Yamis. Ballsy or stupid to be out there I haven’t figured out which yet!
After looking at the forecast I stayed home lol, this week looks a bit better, time will tell

Heard a rumour that Gateway has been sold to the band. Anyone else heard something along the same lines?

could that have anything to do with the daily moorage rates going through the roof? I paid $100 for four days last summer and I’m paying $192 this summer for the exact same dates!

Are you sure it's Gateway you are mooring at?
Roughly $50 a day for moorage and parking.
18' boat, same as last year.
Moorage - Daily 42.00 Parking - Daily - $5/day
May be Port Renfrew Marina, up the river you are thinking of?
Moorage — Port Renfrew Marina & RV Park

My relatives stay at the campground and the band treats them awesome. So if they bought it's a good thing. I think you might be talking about Port Renfrew Marina?
Gateway is the one rumoured to be sold to the Band, fairly reliable source, 100% sure it’s not PRM I just talk to the big guy this morning lol,. Taking control of operation after the season. Crabs are around so are the slinky’s not too sure about the salmon, will know more in the next few days
