Canucks 2021 Season

Last period was painful to watch. Last 5 mins of the 2nd was super sloppy from the Canucks. Surprised that it wasn’t game-over by end of the 2nd. Must be a tough moral challenge in the locker room now.

best part of the game was Roussel thumping Puljujarvi, it looked like he wanted to run home crying to his mommy, I wonder if Roussel would've done that if Kassian or Neal were in the lineup, or Lucic was still there, I highly doubt he would've, lol.

you could just feel this game slipping away and made that 3rd very painful to watch, Montreal cleaned house after 2 OT loses to Ottawa, they signed Burrows as an assistant, Canucks should've signed him to play, lol, this team needs some heart and tenacity, maybe a fight or 2 from Horvat might get them going, he could start by sucker punching Virtanen, hahaha.

Here we are again, long suffering Canucks fan reduced to yet once again thinking "at least we should get a good draft pick and perhaps for a change we will actually improve our draw in the lottery". Virtanen, is 227 lbs, Horvat is about 210. Virtanen is fast as hell and has skills. He should be another Horvat. Hell with the tools he has he should be better than Horvat, but seems to need a heart transplant. Perhaps Virtanen is the one who should get sent out to fight when a little preventative justice is needed.

It is absurd that we are still taking a multi million dollar cap hit on Longo and will do so for a couple of more years. How are we supposed to improve when we have less money to work with than other teams. Bad managment decisions and the the league being butt hats as well on that one.

Unfortunately that's on management as they new the rules pertaining to contracts and I believe also held back cap hit/salary to move Lou?

On to other news.....Giroux and others are back in the line up after extended COVID list visits. Go Flyers!!! :p

Agree in one sense, Gillis must have really pissed off Bettman and his cronies as he was warned against circumventing the Cap hit. I understand it was not Illegal and Gillis took advantage of a loophole and to the day management has paid the price. Probably one of the reason why Gillis was fired in the first place. Who knows but there were lots of other questionable examples where Bettman turned a blind eye. Small man syndrome with an axe to grind maybe. JB asked for forgiveness last year and got none.

Only one more year of luongo's cap recapture after this year. That's over $3m. Ryan Spooner buyout is done this year ($1M). Hopefully Seattle takes Myers off our hands ($6M). Edler is $6M this year and a UFA next year. I think they could sign him for half. Loui Erickson will be bought out this off season. There is going to be lots of money to play around with next year. I'd hope that they can trade Sutter, Pearson, (and maybe Virtanen??? Pipe dream???) this year to a contender. And bring in a competent GM to work with the good pieces that we have and the cap space that we free up over the next two years.

We've got to re-sign Demko this off season and if we are last in the North, it shouldn't be too bad of a cap hit moving forward.

It was a legal way of circumventing the cap under the existing CBA of the time; and it pissed off Bettman. when they re-did the CBA the “cap recapture” penalty was enforced hamstringing the teams that had signed players to these types of contracts. Nashville was looking to have to pay something to the tune of 24 million per year for the last few years of his contract.

So naturally the league scrapped the cap recapture leaving only.....you guessed it; your Vancouver Canucks as the ONLY team that had to pay.

I’m telling you it’s hard to be a Canucks fan sometimes

i think the frustrating part of all this mess is not capitalizing on Peteys and Hughes entry level deals by surrounding them with decent players. They are going to get paid the max and we will be the next Chicago Blackhawks with three of four players making all the money. some teams seem to figure it out ( colorado tampa bay ) but not Vancouver. we sign “has beens”to max deals

It’s all good because we might get the highest draft pick we’ve ever had next year! We’re a lotto team! Woo!

Most likely in my opinion. Team is going know where as filling holes is slowing the process or just squeaking us into the playoffs with overall cap concerns. As we know the draft is the only way to truly get what's needed and we need to get lucky with a #1/3 pick.Look at Toronto who got more than luck, Edmonton, pathetic although how many chances it took to succeed. Pittsburg, Chicago who purposely tanked prior to the lottery and got what they needed to build a time around. Canucks are close with EP40 and Hughes just need to get real lucky with another top notch forward and defenceman.
As for our hindering curse we need some kind of evil spirit remover to get it done. Any suggestions?

Canucks have a bronze effigy of Roger Neilson mocking officiating in front of their rink. let’s start by melting that thing down!

Perfect, good start, there are dumb enough bad guys in the downtown core to get it done. lol

I think Linden had it right all along on the rebuild program. Voiced his opinion and that was that.
Anyways some sort of Curse kit would work but the bigger problem is finding a witch to intervene. Maybe some one out there has an X that fits the bill. LOL

Good teams draft well and are very good at managing the cap. The Canucks drafting has been spotty, wins on Petterson, Hughes and Boeser, clear screwups on Virtanen and Juolevi ( instead of Tkachuk! ) and don't forget they took McCann one spot ahead of Pastrnak, then gave him away for a terrible defenseman in Gudbranson. Not much to show for their other picks. Cap management has been awful, 6 million on Erickson, 3 million for too long on Beagle, they are stuck with Roussel taking stupid penalties for another season at 3 million, Sutter 4.5, million. paying Baertschi millions to play in the AHL. Canucks have 23 million in cap space going to 4th liners, guys sitting in the pressbox, playing in the AHL, or no longer playing. At least Sutter and Baertschi contracts will be gone next season. They aren't going to be competitive until they clear the bad contracts , which isn't until the 22/23 season. Until then they should keep their picks, plan for putting together a team that can compete, and not make any more dumb free agent signings.

On the bright side, only 32 games left for the Nucks
Ottawa has been winning some games lately and are only a couple of wins behind so if the Canucks keep playing like this, they may well end up last in the division and the Canucks have a few games on them. That should help our drafting.

Demko looked like the Golie we need if he can stay at that level consistently.

Virtanen finally looked like he turned up to play closer to his potential, especially in the second period.

That promotion ad between the first and second period was a bit much for long suffering Canucks fans and a reminder of what we let go. It went something like "See Tyler Toffoli and the Habs take on the Jets Saturday".

You think the Canucks have issues, look at the iconic 1952 Mr. Potato Head this morning and having to keep up with the times. He's going gender neutral and dropping the Mr. But, but what about his moustache? LOl
Sorry just trying to lighten the mood for us Canucks supporters or maybe I should give up reading the news.
On to Winnipeg.
