As far as i know the Grand Coulee dam w/o fish ladders was illegal at the time. I have seen some online evidence that Chinook salmon are capable of rapid evolutionary changes; recovering the "June Hogs" would be awesome.

been a while but I have fished on the hog line on the Columbia river before.. pretty cool way of fishing .. got a couple beauties

Were you at the mouth or way upstream? If you are in to traveling, try the Chetco bubble - pretty much a 50#+ every year brought in.
