Here is a "clarification" on the unilateral declaration by those 38 Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs that recreational fishing in their traditional territories is closed in 2019. Remember, this covers most of the Skeena upstream from the Terrace area, a bit of the lower Bulkley (and tributaries), Kispiox, Babine, Sustut and a host of less renowned smaller Skeena tributaries.
As a friend of recreational fishing has asked the chiefs, under what provincial and federal law is there provision for the Gitsxans to prohibit trespassing on their territory by those who have purchased the conventional fishing licences from the government that claims responsibility for such things?
One would hope (expect???) our elected government representatives to step forward here and clear the air on just who is allowed to do what and under what authority?
