Bib Pants For Fishing

Hey Guys

I am pretty sure that this has been discussed before. But I can't seem to find the thread. After 6 years I am retiring my Helly Hansen Armour Bib Pants, they have been fantastic but I am looking to get something with some pockets. Anybody have any gear they really like? Not looking for rubber rain gear more a general bib pant for fishing and hanging out on the boat.

I have heard ok things about the following

I really like

But I don't have any experience with this brand

I have a pair made by Frabill that i bought on amazon that i really like. they are in the $200 range. quite durable and comfortable. extra padding in the knees for kneeling in the boat.

Grundens goretex downrigger model..... I have the Simms goretex as well and the Grundens are much better IMO

I’ve been very happy with my Mustang Taku bibs. They are well made and have a good pocket layout. They fit a bit longer than other brands if you are on the tall side. I find the Simms gear well thought out, but always too short in the arms and legs for me (I’m 6’5”).

+1 for the Simms Challenger bibs. Lighter and softer than their Pro Dry goretex series ( I did go with their goretex jacket though). It handled the tough jobs like sitting on wet gunwale or motor doghouse, no wet butt.

Cost can be viewed from more than one POV. What does it cost to be wet and miserable when you're supposed to be enjoying a day out on the water in your expensive boat? If it leads you to restrict your fishing and boating only to reliably sunny days, that is a cost. Your boat and gear age in years despite little mileage, and at resale time few people look past model year when making an offer.

Top quality outerwear is a good investment in yourself. Look after it and protect it from theft and you'll be rewarded with adventure, scenery and top level outdoor experiences for many years. Cheap stuff doesn't work as well, doesn't last and quietly induces you to stay home. It ends up costing more over time than getting good gear up front.

I am using the Grundens as well and like them. If I was looking for a new pair I would probably buy them or look at the Simms

My fave fishing bibs are an old pair of Gore-Tex waders that I simply cut the boots off of. While they had pin-hole and seam leaks that finally did them in for wading, they’re more than water-proof enough for on the boat.

Cheers!

Ukee

I did the same thing for a pair of durable waterproof pants for at moose camp. It worked great and use it for all sorts of stuff now, but I have been looking at grundens for the boat
