Fished last night from 530-730. There was a flurry between 6 and 630 where we picked up one ~75cm, lost one beside the boat, and missed a good hit. That was in the structure on the northeast side of horswell channel. We did one pass by Piper's at 730 and missed another good one, then had to go...
Was out near the fingers the last two evenings from 730-9. Pretty slow for us Saturday with just a hatch coho. Last night was better but nothing in the slot. One around 83cm and another similar we didn't get to net. Nice to see some larger fish this year.
It seems like more bait is moving in...
Fished between Clarke and the fingers from 630 to dark. Was slow for us as well until 830. We had to release one at 101cm by 62 girth, which the formula puts at 32 lbs. Biggest I have ever caught out of Nanaimo for sure. 100' on a green hootchie. After that we picked up a 66cm a little shallower...
Pretty slow for us last night off Clarke/fingers area. Lost a decent fish beside the boat then a few shakers. Almost no bait at all. I'm going camping - hope it's better when I get back!
I went out today from just after 1 until 3. Was dead for us. We got there just after the low slack and there was some bait stacked up, but nothing happened for us. Ran a plug and a whole herring for the most part. Tried a bunch of depths but mostly 70-90. I blame my four year old for the less...
Went out last night from 6-830. Fished Clarke and Piper's area. Ended up with three, about 8, 10, and 16 lbs. All between 60 and 90 feet.
Props to outbeen's report above. Motivated me to get out before the wind arrived, and we got all three on plugs. A 6" 602 and a 5" 304.
This picture is...
We picked up one about 12 lbs at 730. Every boat I passed seemed to have one. Our was close to Rocky point. Missed another close to 930 but other than that just a few shakers. Nice calm day to be on the water.
The regs until August 31 were 1 spring, 62-80cm. That regulation ended Aug 31 so that's what it showed. It's sort of common knowledge that a new regulation would take it's place September 1, but this was invisible until the morning of Sept 1. You're not going crazy. It's just an imperfect system.
Trialed a "fish early then try to get to work on time" plan today. Had lines in the water just after 6 and left at 8.
I stayed around the fingers. Picked up a 73cm at 7:30 at 96ft. Had one other on earlier that I think would have made the slot. At least one other guy there was getting some fish...
Thanks, I'll give it a shot at some point.
Was out yesterday morning for a few hours around Piper's, Clark, and Hudson. Nothing but shakers and a coho for us. I ran into a few others with similar stories.
Hi,
I have 80-100 lbs of lead I'd like to have made into cannonballs and weights.
I see the odd person selling cannonballs on here - anyone willing to quote on making them if the lead is provided?
I'm are hoping to make maybe 5-6 cannonballs and have the rest made into 1lb weights.
Ideally the...
Thanks Gerry. We did quite well here up until about 4 years ago - I wonder if the commercial opening changed or if maybe a few local prawners started fishing it when before they hadn't.
How have people been finding prawning?
We just pulled out first set and only had 15 over four traps. Same spot last year had 400-600. I'm hoping it was just a bad set but am curious if others have found it a poor start.
Has anybody tried running to Lasqueti for sox? Do they stack up there at all? I've been told they all shoot through Sabine Channel so you'd think you could get them on the east end of lasqueti as they exit.
