What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

After doing in my lower unit on my kicker by dragging it a ways I finally got it put back together in time for the last of this fishing season.
OEM parts including a new lower unit at $2900 plus tax and shipping are so far out that I was even considering buying a new kicker and selling the old one after I have it rebuilt and found only one place that had one. I never realized how many versions of the T9.9 there are before this hunt. I tried a new direction the old fashioned way and starting making some calls to find a second hand or rebuilt lower unit and hit pay dirt with the proverbial needle in a haystack. After a four hour return drive I had the chunk of gold in my garage. Now I’m back together and waiting out this storm to get on the water again!
I kept the parts on order and will rebuild the original and hang on to it for a spare or consider selling it if someone finds themselves in my shoes. This whole experience was a real eye opener regarding availability of marine shop time and/or parts.

Installed a Fell Marine wireless M.O.B. kill switch that I picked up from @bigbruce - thanks!

Easy install and works great. No more worrying in the back of my mind when I’m out solo of falling overboard and watching the boat motor away without me, or having the pooch fall over and not noticing.

Attached the Seastar cylinder on the old 200 and got all the holes drilled and fitted for the helm. Doing it solo and I'm old so it took me 7 hours (got the old stuff off to) , so the mounting of the helm and hose and purge scheduled for next week

Put heat exchanger on today (19 ft Lund ITS Adventure). This was a Volvo P 4.3 V6. No real problems. A couple things left to do ;protect rub points and the raw water "stay" is going to be improved/customized because the one that came in the kit IMO is severely under-built. Finally just an over all cleaning of the work.

So hows this for **** house luck?

Went out prawning/crabbing on Friday, boat runs perfect all day, run around Thetis for a cruise while traps are soaking ,great day on water.
Come home and cleaning everything up, go to run up the motor with salt away, it starts then dies, starts then dies, and then again??..
Im like wtf?..
Go have a beer and say to my better half I'll look at it tomorrow as its getting dark.
Saturday morning I head out to figure whats going on..not getting gas!, almost full tank, cant be fuel pump?!, pour some gas in carb, fires right up then dies..
Unhook gas line at filter, dry as can be..go to take fuel pickup out of tank, undo hose clamps, grab the hose to pull off and the hose falls off in my hand, one way fuel fitting falls apart corroded beyond belief, wow,
Remove the pickup tube from tank, tried to remove broken piece inside main pickup fitting but ended up replacing it with all new fittings, and new fuel lines.

Pumped up the ball on kicker to fill fuel filter and the main fires right up, as does the kicker.

To all with built-in tanks, check your fittings ,
this could have been catastrophic if fishing in tight to the rocks on west coast or just a real pain in the butt at the very least if it had happened out for a cruise on calm waters..dead in the water with no gas to kicker for backup
Still counting my lucky stars

Is teflon type tape okay in a fuel system? I seem to remember it was not, but I'm often wrong.
This yellow tape is made for petroleum/ gasoline, and other types, eg lp gases, on different types of pipe material.
the original pickup tube from 2002 ,you can see was wrapped with the white type of tape

Too damn nice of a weekend to not have seats in the boat!
I called up the upholsterer to get an update. He’s finished the side panels and sewing up the seats tonight and installing in my boat on Wednesday. I think it’s going to give the interior a super fresh look! Very excited

I sense a boat building company forming here.
