A number of people have asked where the candidates in this election stand on the long gun registry.

For the record Conservative Candidate John Duncan and Independent Jason Draper are the only candidates who have committed to abolishing the long gun registry.

Mike Holland (Liberal) has stated from the beginning that he would vote with his fellow Liberals to retain the registry.

Ronna-Rae Leonard (NDP) skirted the issue through the campaign but finally went on the record and stated at the Courtenay All Candidates Meeting that she would vote in favor of retaining the registry.

Sue Moen (Green) has stated that she supports retention of the registry.

Guns are registered my vote goes NDP the others have all had my vote over the year except Green. I am more than willing to vote NDP to give them a chance. Our fishery is more important to my family and our community, as a board member of our Chamber we are going NDP.
