So, the question becomes, how much money does it cost to stop this?
Then who pays?
Then who collects?
Then who pays?

Absolutely **** poor decision by DFO or the Liberal government I should say.
This will be happening more and more. Next will be special passes we will have to pay for to access our fisheries on the coast. Then it will be hunting and so forth.
The Vedder netting was just a start, a foot in the door to the rest of our fisheries getting compromised.
Anyone in our fisheries who thought this was a good idea was either getting paid off or have no idea the reprocussions of this or the knowledge of our fisheries.
People better wake up before its all gone.

So......from now to the end of September (pretty much the entire run timing for chinook) they are going to gill net the choke point near the river mouth. Unbelievable!! Are there any restrictions on them regarding numbers of fish?

Our group making these Preposterous decisions won't be satisfied until ALL the fish are gone and Sport Fishing is a thing of the Past.
Another great decision in the Name Of Conservation and Reconciliation.

Nonselective fishery in the tyee pool? Are you F'in kidding me? Gillnet and fossil fuel-powered vessels, really traditional, where is the dugout canoe? Has April fools come early? My great grandfather E.P. painter is rolling in his grave... This is a joke and part of me wants to go up there and get in the way if they actually string out gill nets. This is a power move by FN and DFO should be embraced. I would be surprised if they actually fished it that is a great way to start a war. But if they do fish it then they better start working with all the volunteers that keep this low-impact fishery alive and sustainable. Except with gillnets, I don't know how sustainable it will be??

Well it certainly appears no party cares, but what are the options? You can give up or make sure the local candidate knows what you want and it might cost them your vote. Seems like not much, but if everyone who fished makes it an election issue you might get satisfaction. It’s the only option we have, politicians live to get elected!

This is a very bad day for an iconic fishery that has made Tyee Cub and Campbell River famous since it’s forming in 1924. The forming of this club was also instrumental in keeping the River and it’s fish species strong over the last 97 years. What a sad sad day that the fishery that keeps people coming back year after year could be lost forever. Remember when you vote at the next federal election that the Liberal party killed this fishery.
Oh I will be and putting it on social media, you cannot send any proofing to the news media simply because not one news outlet has a clue.

Isn't it strange that they don't just string a few nets across the river up by the bridge to get there ceremonial fish. Instead they are going to disrupt a Canadian tradition that has brought folks from around the world for years. Sounds like, looks like and smells like a slap in the face to Canadians and everybody who cares about the fishery.

For anyone who believes that it doesn't matter which federal political party is in power when it comes to these FN fishing decisions, you have not been paying attention. Not to defend DFO but their orders come directly from the Feds who have gone all in on UNDRIP and reconciliation. We non FN Canadians are becoming second class citizens and it will continue under our present government especially when it comes to access to resources (including fish and game).
But who is going to pay for all the reallocation of resources? Who is going to pay for the establishment of all the new FN businesses and the subsidization of them that will be necessary for decades in the name of reconciliation? Guess.
This announcement of the opening of gill netting in a major chinook and coho staging area for the Campbell and Quinsam River runs is a travesty ( and DFO knows it) and the loss of these runs is now possible. The fact that the legendary Tyee Pool is located in the zone only makes this stink more

I believe this has to do with the Supreme Court and the constitution and it constantly being upheld rather than the government of the day. Some governments of the day just get sued more than others when they try to stop things, but these fisheries are upheld majority of the time. This notice seems to just try to avoid or advise against any conflict or protest on the high seas.
What head?? There’s been none for a long time….
Sadly, this is the truth. Turdeau and his merry band of socialists will only be happy once "everyone" (that doesn't include those of you that work/own businesses. YOU have to foot the bill for his plan) doesn't have to work and will be happily living on their "guaranteed income". The entire country is going down the toilet and it is nothing but sad to watch. Canada was once the greatest country in the world that took care of their citizens, provided opportunity for residents and immigrants both and was the envy of many around the world. Now we are led by someone who cares more about his socks and how his hair looks than the people who actually foot the bill for his foolishness.
I was born and raised here but am so sickened by what is happening to this country that we are seriously considering retiring elsewhere. I love Canada but watching the country being run into the dirt by this pack of losers is nothing short of heartbreaking.
