The CONS plan on turning a bunch of fish-bearing lakes into tailings ponds

Brutal.....does this **** ever end? I'm not against industry or mining, but let's be responsible about it.

It will be interesting in coming election. I already hearing from a lot of my angling friends are voting CON... I dont get it. They are the worst party for what we do as sport fisherman? And you would still elect them in? Just think hard on election day. The group is bad news for our BC wild salmon industry and environment.

First off,, the "Cons" aren't planning anything of the sort. The "Cons" dont own any mines. These laws and acts have been in place for many years who's to say what government was in power when they were put in place. There are non partizan government agencies that look after these sections. You know,, good old Union paid, anti big money socialists that look after these regulations. If this is taking place its up to the people to write their perspective MP's and have this stopped. What do you think is happening,, Harper is sitting behind his desk secretly picking lakes to dump waste into lol,, such little minds.

^^^WTF^^^? Little minds? Buddy, little minds believe the rhetoric about "the Economy". Your hero Harpers been leader through not one but two recessions in this country and eighth years of deficit after deficit. I'm not saying the liberals are any better but when your hero took over from Paul Martin there was a surplus. Just stating the facts.

First off,, i aint your buddy. Second off yah little minds,, very narrow and little minds. Start reading something besides the Tyee and the CBC and open your mind some. Harper led this country through a world recession or do think he had the power to stop the failing of the US banks in 08. Yah little minds.. Read my friend, the man is one of the most highly regarded leaders in the world and Canada one of the top nations in the world through his leadership in all aspects of human conditions. Again,, stop reading the Tyee as grab a real news magazine and open those little minds..

BUDDY !!

"These laws and acts have been in place for many years who's to say what government was in power when they were put in place."

Where have you been Walleyes? The Conservative Government rewrote both the Fisheries Act and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act in their first omnibus bill of their most recent term to allow exactly this sort of resource development to proceed without Canada's environmental regulations getting in the way. The Conservative Government worked directly with each Industry group, rather than the non-partisan civil servants you refer to, to re-write the legislation and the policies to ensure it met their needs … things like having the destruction of entire fish bearing lakes stand in the way of their industry's development.

You may support such things philosophically but to be uninformed and try to defend them with random speculation is pure ignorance. Unfortunately such is the case for the vast majority of the voting public - so much easier to be fed sound bites via Twitter feeds and other Social Media from sources that conform to your existing way of thinking than to search out the facts.

Here's hoping the NDP, Liberals and Greens don't split the vote enough to deliver Harper another majority of seats with barely a third of popular support!!

Cheers!

Do a quick Google Search under "Canada's International Reputation Under the Harper Government" and you'll find about 10 negative articles for every positive one including sources like the Huffington Post and New York times.

While you're at it you should also Google the definition for Delusion.

Maybe we need to bring back 7% Gst to climb out of this huge recession , the tailings ponds that are here were here long before the Harper government was in power and you think Haper has made this country poorer and less better off well he has bin in power well you just wait tell you see what the NDP does, I mean they have done such a great job in Manitoba and nova Scotia let's not forget the hole we are still digging out of in BC .The NDPs own leader can't take care of his own finances let alone Canada's ,yep this should be a fun 4 years to come.I want a leader that is smart successful can take care of them selfs let alone a hole country's.

JWolfe, what do existing constructed Tailings Storage Facilites have to do with the attached article about the use of fish bearing lakes being allowed under the Harper Government revised Environmental Laws?

As for the rest, under Harper's Government we've been in constant deficit and while they may have removed the hated GST - all the other tax and deduction increases by this government have meant that I have cleared less on each of my pay cheques for 3 straight years despite small "cost of living" pay increases. This loss of take home pay while the cost of living continues to increase far outstrips what I would have paid annually for the Goods and Services Tax.

Again, fact vs rhetoric!

Cheers!

The folks in Alberta have to look back east for their 'Conservative' fix since the Provincial government started reading the Tyee! [emoji14]

Not so! We are now turning towards floral arrangements!

Pippen: Has Treebeard switched from management of Isenguard to HarperLand?

Pippen: Has Treebeard switched from management of Isenguard to HarperLand?

Pippen is just asking an honest question. LOTS can change in the span of 8 years since the date of the article....just asking if someone in the know can shed light as to where we are now.

Treebeard will be better served in Harperland as opposed to the lands below Mt Doom known as Mulcairyland.

Isenguard: Place of reckless wastage where forests and natural resources have been denuded and destroyed all for the sake of "expansion". I'll avoid drawing the obvious parallels to HarperLand to avoid hijacking the thread.

Thanks Pippen - say hi to TreeBeard!

You who knows all......can you provide any insight to my original question?

Where are we 8 years later? It's an honest question. The article says "the sky is falling".....did it fall?? Almost all of the tailing pond articles I can find relate to the Oil Sands.

Funny....a guy asks an honest question and the 'pile on' commences.
