Found this way outside of Pedder Bay in 150 feet of water. I know a lot of people lose their traps and automatically assume they were stolen, but there are other reasons they go missing. Steve, I have your float at least...can't make out your number...not sure you would want it back. lol

I have seen thieves pull traps then move away from area before dumping them.

I have watched people pulling my traps as I was approaching them after a day fishing. The days of dropping your traps to let them soak while you fishing are gone.

I have seen a guy drop his traps where people regularly troll in pedder against the kelp . I've even watched him tacking a line where he dropped his pots the day before.
Not gunna lie I thought about dragging them out of the area. Whose the actual A-hole in this situation?

I read this and wondered if that might be what happened.

There are individuals who do steal gear but my experience is most lost traps are more to do with wind and current.

I put two traps on 600' of ground line, 50 ' spacing then an anchor then a cement anchor to keep the scope of the line down and allow my anchor to set in the mud. I use a large scotchman (and 1 lb line weight) just in case they float off. The only traps I've lost in the 15 years I've been using this rig was to a log boom. This method also keep the traps from moving. Prawns will not go into a trap if there is any movement.

This was the best year prawning I've had on my vacation. I even had to release prawns one day as I was over my limit.
