Hey Guys, yesterday on my way to work i stopped my car on the sixmile bridge to wait for traffic. I looked into the water at extremly low tide and there were like 5 huge springs swimming and one even jumped. Are these the ESQ anglers fish? Or are they lost? I dont think there is a creek that comes into there is there?

Well, there is a run of coho goes up there...
and yes...there is a creek. Go in behind Jenners, casino etc been years but i used to go in there and watch the coho. Never fished it. didn't want to.Kind of a local secret. Hope i didn't let it out.

Hey, flyfishguy89, I don't suspect you would mistake chinook and coho as you obviously know your fish. But the coho get big on the south island. Six years ago we counted a 22 lber coho out of Colquitz Creek behind Montanas Restaurant at the fish fence in back of the Tillicum Mall in Victoria.[:p]:)

Esq Anglers used to have an annual net pen project for chinooks somewhere in the harbour and you may have seen the remnants returning. They still release Nitnat smolts in there annually but no net pen I believe. I heard that the dry dock used to get a bunch of big salmon in it when they emptied it out to work on ships. Salmon BBQ at the docks!! :D

There are wild coho in Millstream. Past few years work on the stream has opened up additional spawning areas too.

Could they have been big coho?

Yes, they could have been big coho's forsure, but i was suprised as 3 of the 5 seemed to be into the 20's I am very happy if they are Cohos as they have a chance to spawn :D Thanks for the replies guys!
