Seattle Boat Show adventure

What a whirl wind trip we just had. Whewww. Nice to be back on the rock for sure. Fishtofino and I headed down South yesterday morning on the first ferry, crossed the border, headed down Interstate 5 to meet up with John Risser (aka goatram from Bloodydecks). He just had one of his hips replaced so we drove him down to the show. He was our guide for the day and all I can say is he is one tough SOB for just having his hip replaced. He was walking with a cane but out did both of us covering ground of the show etc.

He is good buddies with alot of the Washington Bloodydecks crew and there was no shortage of them around. We got to meet Tower Todd, Marlin Mike, Dragonballs, Flasher, Grady 226, Black Velvet, and GH. I probably missed a few. The hospitality, good sh*ttery, and comradery of these guy's is totally awesome. We had a great time.

Here are some pics of the boats we looked at waiting to go to Tower Todd's tuna seminar (which was the whole point of the trip).

An overview as you walk in (lots of boats).

The Defiance boats actually impressed me alot. They are build better than I thought from reports and photos I had seen online. We met Bo Palmer and he is a good guy that has a young boat company that is coming up in the market for sure.

His personal boat was for sale for 119 grand. Wicked vinyl decals. If anyone cruise's the black and red site you have seen this boat. He just repowered it with new twin Honda 250's with zero hours for that price. Full electronic's, bait tank, and new trailer.

The Bamf boat's were probably my favourite in the fiberglass department. I didn't get alot of shots of them but here they are FWIW.

This is the 30' walkaround that is owned by Fishslapper on Bloodydecks. He let them have it for the show. It is fully rigged with Simrad elecronics, a Fluer? night vision camera, and even a camera under the boat to see fish!!!

This is the new 25' model they came out with this year for the PNW. Fridge, stove, *******, etc. Nice boat and I liked it alot better than the new Defiance San Juan that is similar.

I took this picture for C.S. as he want's to put twin 150 Merc's on a pod off of his Osprey. Don't do it man. We found your motor buddy!!!!!

High performance Merc inboard pumping out 850 PONIES !!!

Just for C.S. again. The Osprey's always look great.

This production Duckworth aluminum had so much drool on it that it was hard to climb aboard.(One of my favourite aluminum's at the show).

We had a great trip. Met lot's of folk's, saw lot's of great boats, learned about tuna fishing, and made some great friends. Quality for sure.

Here is a shot of the goatman and myself took by Shawn. Goodbye for now buddy. Until the next adventure. John Risser's hospitality, humour, and comradery was second to none. A good guy all around.

Cheers,
John

Ha Ha!! I had to towel the drool off you when we were on that boat.........

MUST...... BUY......LOTTO.......TICKETS!!!!!

Wow, nice machines. I added more drool to my keyboard. Great report, thanks.

A big highlight of the trip that I forgot to mention was John taking us to his buddy Ken's shop. Ken own's Q Cove tackle and makes the Jim's breakaway flasher.

Here is a link to his site. http://www.qcove.com/

He has all sorts of tackle from salmon to tuna. He builds custom spreader bars and daisy chains etc. but the flashers are the bulk of his business. Shawn even got a couple of custom ones made for him as a gift right before our eyes. It was pretty cool. Ken is a great guy and it was cool to check out his shop and see how he makes the flashers.

Cheers,
John

The first thought when I saw these motors was about the cartoons that we used to watch from Japan was ULTRA MAN, the hoods remind me of his head.

Thanks for a great report Sculpin! I have skipped the Vancouver show and gone to the Seattle show for several years in a row now, it is a great event.

I did not know that Honda has a 250 hp - is that a new model?

Not sure I can make it this year - drove right past yesterday when I had to do a quick trip to SeaTac airport.

Not to side track this tread, but I noticed while driving along I5 that there is a new big store being built right next to the casino in Marysville. It had a sign reading "Cabela's - opening Spring 2012". If it is anything like the other Cabela's stores, it is like an all year fishing and hunting show.

Yeah they look pretty outer space or alien like for sure.

I believe Honda released the 250 a few months ago. Shawn said one of them would look good on the back of my boat (pipe dream)!

That store is the new Marysville Cabela's. Supposed to be a little smaller than the Lacey store but will have everything like the Lacey store has including boats etc. Nice to see one a little closer to the border so the drive isn't as far.

It was a fun trip for sure but Shawn has a little something to deal with in the next 15 days:p.

2 middle fingers up to you...............no applicable icon like on the Black and Red site

I was at the show on sunday it was good really like those bamf boats. the cabelas is opening at the end of april

How was the tuna class?

It was a lot of really good info crammed into 50 minutes. It was worth attending and Todd is a great speaker and teacher. He's putting on another one in June that is 1.5 hrs long.

Great report Sculpin. The wife and I were there on Saturday. I picked up some 5 for $10 Coyotes (3 were made in USA) and I got some Coyote 8" flashers for 4 for $10. I almost bought a gps/sounder but need to read up some more and maybe get it at the Vancouver show. Lowrance have some $100 rebates that run out Feb. 12th.
I really liked the new Montauk 21' as it would look good in my yard along side my BW 11 and 17 footers, but 63,000 is crazy.
I admired the red Duckworth from afar, but after a tour would have to say that apart from the lines, it doesn't compare to my buddy's Lifetimer in most ways(storage, sleeping set up, galley). The paint job can't cover the way the metal buckles? when stuff gets welded to the inside. Bare metal and bottom paint would be my choice.

I'm an aluminum boat guy boat its hard not to love those BAMF Boats they are un real just a little big for my tacoma to pull!!! Maybe one day!
