I used to have tide charts linked to my website at the following address:

http://www.waterlevels-niveauxdeau....ueryType=showRegion&language=english&region=1

DFO seems to have shut them down, and after spending 45 minutes searching through Google and DFO sites - I can't find them.

Every link I hit is DEAD [xx(] [xx(] [xx(] :( :( :(

Anyone have a working link so I can update my website and get my tide tables again [?]

You're right Sushi. They must be down for maintenance or something.

I think it is more than maintenance - I seem to recall that they weren't there some weeks ago when I checked. I also seem to recall a page indicating that they had been moved, but now, nothing. Not even a 404 page.

I've fired off an email to the department and to the Fisheries Minister asking what happened. It is a public safety matter afterall.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a good site.

Jim,

Always a challenge to keep an active link to Government tides sites that change frequently. I've been battling this myself, and will watch to see if anyone else suggests a better option on this....

Subject: Tide Predictions for West Coast Vancouver Island - Pacific
Importance: High

I had the following link on my website for easy access to Tidal information for my area:

http://www.waterlevels-niveauxdeau....pe=showZone&language=english&region=1&zone=12

and

http://www.waterlevels-niveauxdeau....ueryType=showRegion&language=english&region=1

Neither link works now.

I have just spent the last 45 minutes doing Google searches, and searching DFO websites without success.

This is vital information for the safety of the boating public.

Where can I find the Tidal Predictions information that used to be on the above links?

Only one slight problem.

The URL he sent me does not work either. There is no website at that address! [xx(] [xx(][xx(]

Yeah, indeed, thanks Forest!
Them's really cool charts man.

New email:

I have tried the address shortly before sending you the link and I just tried it again and it worked. It seems that a lot of people are having difficulties with our websites. We will look into this matter.

Thank You!

I've used the program WXTide32,gives tides all over the world, can have your on list of favorite spotsso no searching. Comes as a compreesed file once opened then just use the file index to save what you want.

I am using FireFox if it helps to determine the problem, I cannot access either.

Cheers

Keep in mind that DFO has nothing to do with tide predictions, Cdn Hydrographic Service is a completely different branch of gov't.

There's two types of sources of tide info:

1. programs that estimate tides and currents, like tbone and daikiri links above. These are unofficial, meaning no liability for navigation, but probably good enough for fishing

2. official Canadian gov't charts. These used to be only available by buying the printed booklets, but in the last few years, they publish the info online (just seem to change the URL every 6 months or so). I think it is much the same as the programs above, just with more scrutiny to ensure they are right.

All that being said, I can't find a link to CHS that works either! I'll see if I can find anything, and pass it on if I do...

Hi Mason.Jar,

This is just a really quick note to inform you that we have reworked the entire Kill Fish - The Word angling community website...

Yes Mason.Jar, we did it all for you and any other member of our fishing community in order to accommodate as many members as possible...

After doing some extensive and complete research we found that our past direction was way too far ahead of it's time for many of the users of our site. A lot of our past technology had been directed towards newer more compliant browser windows like FireFox and Safari, as well as high speed internet connections and big power computers...

Mason.Jar, for your benefit, we have spurred a new direction...a direction that will hopefully accommodate as many users as possible without issues...

We have simplified the look and feel, we have developed easier to use navigation, we have optimized all images to help load the pages faster and we have stopped using technology that limits non compliant browser windows such as Internet Explorer from seeing what the rest of the world does...

Yes, honestly Mason.Jar - we have done this for you, along with all of our members at Kill Fish - The Word angling community...we even did this for our newest member linebacker42, who just joined recently...

We have video, audio, games, forums, galleries, chat, weather and tides, cooking recipes, buy/sell/trade, a sportfishing directory and soon much, much more...

Come check out what we have done in order to make your experience on Kill Fish more enjoyable...see what's new!

Kill Fish Auction Shop will be launched in the very near future...dedicated to fishing and the great outdoors, our new niche focused buy/sell site will feature shops buy regular everyday tackle stores and individuals, as well as wanted ads, auction listings, buy it now, trading and much, much more... www.killfish.com

Please remember to check out, purchase and shop with any our many dedicated website sponsors...

Ace Line Hauler | O'ki Tackle | Active Guiding & Tackle | Pacific Net & Twine | Screaming Fish & Fly
Value Wise Optical | West Marine | Sign Solutions | Industrial Plastics & Paints | Bakers Auto & Marine
Acklands Grainger | Bottom Walker Tackle | Skippers Marine Center | Victoria Battery Direct
Mid Island Safety Services | Harbour Chandler | Home Hardware | Nanaimo Bottle Depot

**Please Note: Bottom Walker Tackle has launched a new secure & easy way to shop online for premium saltwater tackle and accessories. http://www.bottomwalker.com

Thank you very much for joining our angling community...we encourage you to participate regularly on Kill Fish - The Word. http://www.killfish.ca

The Nanaimo Kill Fish - Knot a Derby event was a huge success, even though the fish gods did not cooperate. There has been some recent chatter regarding other Knot a Derby events being developed in other community's around BC. If you have a group of people who can gather to form a sub committee of the Main Events Committee, we encourage you to contact them to see where Kill Fish can help make your event fun, exciting and successful... Net revenue from an event in your community will stay in your community and will be donated to an organization dedicated to building sustainable salmonid for your home town area water sheds and streams...

Please feel free to contact RVP, Done Deal, Mikiki or BigChrome to discuss your thoughts and ideas and to set up a committee meeting for your area...

Remember, telling two friends is like sharing "The Word" with 10 other potential members...

Preach and believe...

As a body of water, a kill is a creek.
The word comes from the Middle Dutch kille, meaning "riverbed" or "water channel."
The modern Dutch term is kil.
