Pre-budget consultations are underway across the country, including West Prince. Fisheries Minister Gail Shea, Conservative MP for Egmont, asked guests at a Jan 4 news conference, which drew as many as 200 people, to fill out a questionnaire with their budget suggestions and mail back the pre-addressed envelope to her office. She also stated any mail sent to an MP is postage free. The package contained four questions, including one asking “what cost-neutral or non-spending steps can the federal government take in the next budget to help create jobs and promote economic growth?”

Other questions asked whether the government should balance budgets before or after its 2015-2016 target date and in which areas “do you think the federal government can be more efficient and effective” with tax dollars?

A fourth question asks what the country’s priorities should be “for the short and long term to encourage private sector growth and leadership in the economy.” An entire page is set aside for "other comments."
