Fishermen participating in these fisheries should read their licence conditions
carefully. Fish must be sorted immediately in a wet sorting area and
prohibited species released. Salmon log books are mandatory and must be filled
out prior to unloading catch. For these night time openings only, vessel
masters should combine the catches from before and after midnight of a single
night opening into a single logbook record and a single phone-in catch report,
using the date of the beginning of the fishery (e.g. for a fishery starting at
20:30 hours August 14, use August 14 as the date for the entire opening).

Recreational fleets are expected during daylight hours. The gill net fleet is
requested to travel at slower speeds to minimize wake when travelling through
the recreational fleet.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada is interested in reports of sea turtles in BC
waters. By documenting sightings we are able to learn more about how, when and
where these turtles are using our waters. If you see or entangle a sea turtle,
please call this toll-free phone number: 1-866-I SAW ONE (1-866-472-9663).
Please include information such as the type of sea turtle seen (e.g.,
Leatherback, Hawksbill, Green), the location, time of sighting and if
entanglement has occurred.

Marbled Murrelets are listed as threatened by the Species at Risk Act. While
loss of nesting habitat is the primary reason for listing, gill net mortality
is also identified as a potential threat. In order to quantify Marbled
Murrelet by-catch in B.C.'s gill net fisheries, the Department and the Canadian
Wildlife Service have embarked on a joint project. You can help by documenting
and salvaging marine birds so that we are able to learn more about the presence
and distribution of Marbled Murrelets and other species on the B.C. coast.[:0]
